| Post subject: | Paths when your source is Sorcerer Priest of Sarish |
I want to reach out to the community for suggestions on paths for a Templar of Sarish that focus on spell casting. I feel like I have to be missing something. Every mage path seems to be locked down to Arcane Spell Casting (Elder, Eldritch, Primal, and occasionally Psionic). All the Priest paths are just that priestly. As it stands, all I see are Martial avenues for a Templar of Sarish. Anyone able to prove me wrong? |

My character grew up in the Temple of Sarish in Blackwand. His father is a val' Mehan Sorcerer Priest and his mother is a val'Sungha Knight of the Order of Yhrki. Due to the gorilla war with Coryan he didn't get much mommy time, but he trained every day with the Templars and tries to live up to Knightly ideals. Sadly for his hopes and dreams Sarish has made him a potent blooded prodigy. Still he is vehemently opposed to taking orders in the Mother Church of Coryan as he views it as an extension of Coryani Imperialism. |

The Order of the Inner Demon seems a good choice for that. There is also that new Knightly Order in Milandir (they showed up in "Espionage") which hasn't been released for Campaign Play, but if you are playing a Kio Character that probably won't work out for one from the Western Lands. |

I have no idea what you mean "casting class"? All paths do us give you some talents and skills. Your casting comes from Arcane Spellcasting Talent. Holy Champion is these facto paladin path for any deity. It gives a few combat abilities and your casting can continue. It's mainly for someone without prior casting but doesn't stop you from taking it. Most if not all deity specific paths require either anointed priest (more casting oriented) or holy Champion ( more combat oriented). Sarish is no different. John |

As John said, there really isn't a need for you to take a path at all. One of the beautiful things about this system is that you can describe your character however you want. Want to be a spell caster with some good melee ability? Pick up Delay Strain and a Martial Technique. With a relatively slow weapon you'll be casting two spells to every melee attack, which sounds like it is exactly the sort of thing you are looking for with this character. Paths give you a combination of talents and skills, but they are by no means required and they do not have to be what defines your character. My wife's primary still doesn't have a path, as there aren't any paths currently available that fully fit her character concept. As anyone at our BI table will be able to tell you, her character is still very effective despite not having a path. Don't get too hung up on it. If there isn't currently a path that fits what you are looking for, wait and see what is in the Blessed Lands book. |

As part of the proposed and likely to be approved errata, the following change was added: Page 295 (Errata) Sorcerer-Priests of Sarish Under Requirements and Talents add the following (shown in Bold) Requirements: Anointed Priest of Sarish (pa) or Arcane Spell Casting (Sorcerer –Priest of Sarish) T.II (ta) Talents: Metaphysical Understanding, Learn Spell: Remove Curse (which is learned as part of the Blood tradition), and Arcane Spell Casting: Sorcerer-Priest of Sarish This opens up more of the options. There aren't "classes" in Arcanis. Your direction is defined by the talents, skills and paths you take. Some paths reinforce a particular concept, but you can certainly be a caster out of any of the 4 archetypes as long as one of them or a background or a Path gives you your initial access to taking the Arcane Spell Casting: Sorcerer Priest of Sarish Talent.
