In the Advancement section (WH2, p 100) is a sidebar entitled Be Not Timid. That was the entire inspiration (and gauge) for this Competency Table. It appears nowhere in the book, and yet, as a GM, I suspect it will be EXTREMELY valuable to me when creating NPCs (especially on the fly). WH1 had similar tables for each of the different Abilities, which is a bit redundant – I can certainly understand why they were jettisoned. However, since WH2 puts extra a lot more weight on NPC and Adversary skills, it was important for me to be able to gauge at a glance just how competent I wanted a character to be at any given task. Some of you may find this intuitive, but regardless, here goes…

    Competency
    Dice Pool*…Description
    2…Poor
    3–4…Average
    5–6…Good
    7–8…Great
    9–10…Exceptional
    11+**…Extraordinary

*Dice Pool is the combined dice from Ability and Skill.
**Yes, the rules cap dice pools at 10, with additional dice converting to auto successes. This category is meant to reflect that.

Anyhow, hope this is useful to someone else. If these numbers appear off to anyone, please chime in.

Aaaaaaand knucklehead that I am just found pretty much the same table on pg 54 of the first edition WH book. I’m juuust clever enough to double the numbers and claim credit. \":?\" \"\"

Either way, still a very useful table to have around. Especially in 2nd ed.
