With new character options popping up in the Blessed Lands Sourcebook, we are going to need to create the Home Region: Blessed Lands as part of the character creation process
Skills: Knowledge (Religion), Knowledge (History), Wilderness Lore, Tracking, Mettle, Appraise
Language/Literate: High Coryani/Y, High Khitani/Y
Henry…I know we discussed yesterday in our google chat meeting but can you please confirm if the languages need to be of the “High” or “Low” variety.
Best,
Joe

Similarly, would there be regional differences between the various parts of the Blessed Lands?
Eastern Blessed Lands (near the pass from the Known Lands) – Maybe include Perception (from the Almeric list?)
Central Blessed Lands (around the First City) – As stated by Joe
Western Blessed Lands (near Pescinium and the Sea of Lanterns) – Include Seamanship in place of TrackingDecember 17, 2013 at 5:01 pm #253573AnonymousInactiveI’d recommend adding Linguistics to the list of skills as an option given the number of cultures that send pilgrimages to the First City.

Nation: The Blessed Lands
Regions: This is up to Henry, but I think “Western, Central, and Eastern” regions would be applicable. Failing that, start listing communities like Pecinium, The First City, the Citadel of Illiir, etc.
Skills: Appraise, Wilderness Lore, Seamanship, Knowledge (Myths and Legends), Perception, Mettle
Native Language/Literate:
Andyar Creole/N
Low Coryani (First City)/Y
Low Coryani (Other)/N
Low Khitani (First City)/Y
Low Khitani (Other)/N
Altheren (First City, Citadels)/YI would doubt that High Coryani and High Khitani would be the languages spoken in the Blessed Lands because High Khitani is used by the learned class, while High Coryani is the language of the Vals, as well as (likely) the ‘native’ tongue of Illonia and Balantica in Coryan. Low Coryani is the Trade Tongue of the East and is made up of the languages of the people who were absorbed into the Empire. Like Westron in the Tolkien universe, this “Common Tongue” has since subsumed many regional languages which existed before.
As to Linguistics, I am not sure if it would work for a National Skill as no other nation has it, so it might unbalance the game somewhat. That said, if there was anywhere it was appropriate, it would be the Blessed Lands (Replace Perception or Mettle from my list)

February 13, 2014 at 4:44 am #256699AnonymousInactiveAre we getting an official language for Andyar Pidgin? I noticed on the Sama thread that they get Sama (language) and either Low Coryani or Low Khitani, but wouldn’t the Andyar Trade Language also be a viable option?

Skills: Appraise, Knowledge (Myths and Legends), Linguistics, Mettle, Perception, Seamanship, Wilderness Lore
Native Language/Literate:
Altharin (First City, Citadels)/Y
Andyar Creole/N
Low Coryani (First City)/Y
Low Coryani (Other)/N
Low Khitani (First City)/Y
Low Khitani (Other)/NAs the Kickstarter update Henry just posted indicated that the first pass for the book was done, I thought it might be well to revisit the starting region.
I’ve added Linguistics to the list of available skills. I didn’t remove any. While most starting nations have 5 or 6, Ymmandragore has 7, so there is precedence. You also can’t take more than 2 skills anyway.
I also moved Altharin up to the top of the list as that’s where it fit alphabetically as well as conceptually ahead of the Andyar trade tongue.
As a related question, are there any Blessed Land specific Backgrounds?
With a sweep of his hat,
Paul
