If I have a successful unbalancing Attack against “MOB A”, and follow that up with a spell attack, do I get to add my prowess die to the spells damage? Follow up question, if the spell attack is pound of flesh, do I get the Prowess Die on the Heal?
February 11, 2014 at 5:37 pm #256576AnonymousInactiveHere is my take on it, “no no no no!”
that being said here is my reasoning: Pound of flesh only heals from its self , and unbalancing attack while it adds damage its not part of pound of flesh its its own source of damage. (thus avoid the similar question of does brittle bones bump pound of flesh)
I’d also go so far to say that martial techniques like this wont add to spell damage.
Those being said, the book does not support or deny the position they do or they dont, so your mileage my vary.

discussion. Also, because I heard if something like this going on, The next attack for Unbalancing Attack should be your next attack within a reasonable amount of time. I wouldn’t have to say it has to be your next action (if you want to bleed off recovery before making the follow up attack, e.g.) but if you make another attack in between it or change targets, the unbalancing effect should wear off. This was generally supported by Pedro on the old forums, though that is now lost.

We sort of broke the spell with area effect elemental bolts. I ended up trading out of pound of flesh after the ruling came down. There seemed to me better healing options.
February 11, 2014 at 10:41 pm #256612AnonymousInactiveYou ONLY heal the spell’s damage… the additional damage from unbalancing strike is the result of the maneuver, not the spell.
but, regardless, it’s still a nice combo…

So you can follow up the Unbalancing Attack with a Spell and get the bonus? Just double checking.John
February 11, 2014 at 11:07 pm #256617AnonymousInactiveThat does seem to be what he is implying. It doesn’t specify what KIND of attack, just that it is an attack.

Can you point to the ruling on that?February 12, 2014 at 3:12 am #256621AnonymousInactiveactually its this thread and common sense, I think you guys are pursuing clarification for the sake of clarification.
I’m satisfied with Pedros response in this thread.
I would encourage people to formulate specific questions if they would like ruling and not ask blanket questions and expect blanket rulings

Actually what Pedro said is “the spell damage”, not “the spell’s damage”, there’s a difference. In his post, Pedro was saying the martial technique’s damage did not apply to the healing factor of ‘A Pound of Flesh’. That isn’t what I was asking for the clarification/ruling on.February 12, 2014 at 3:32 am #256624AnonymousInactivere reading the thread, i still have no idea what your asking for mith, other than some sort of blanket ruling…. can you break down what your asking for?

Yep, you deal the bonus damage..
you just don’t heal the additional damage with PoF
I can see someone using this, they swing with their sword forcing the target off balance… step back and cast a spell taking advantage of the opening in the target’s defenses.
the extra damage granted by the combat maneuver is not the spell’s damage, it’s the maneuver’s damage.

Yes please….
February 12, 2014 at 3:53 am #256627AnonymousInactiveThe post by MaurLysander would seem to imply that there has been a ruling that ‘A Pound of Flesh’ and ‘Elemental Bolt’ cannot be combined and adapted to be an AoE for a large amount of healing. That would be counter to the explicit text in the book on combining Base spells; which is why I’m asking.

Not really. It isn’t out of the realm of thought for one to think that boosting the damage on a vampiric style spell would thus boost the healing side as well.February 12, 2014 at 5:43 am #256633AnonymousInactiveThe previous ruling made advanced spells more of a dual spell ability than a merging of the spells.
