Ok working on new maneuvers, take a look

    Galloping Shot
You can fire from horseback, mid gallop, without slowing.
Requirements: Quickness 6, Ranged (Any) +6, Ride +6, Hawkeye (T1)
    Category: Base
    Attack: Avoidance (Qu)
    Speed (Recovery): +2 (1)
    Range: As Weapon (See Effect)
Effect: Weapon; you may move, preform a ranged attack, and move again, up to the normal pace of your mount. You must be mounted to use this maneuver.
Weapons: Light Crossbow, Flintlock Pistol, Sling, Javalin, Pilum, any weapon with the “Thrown” Quality.
Special (Advanced Maneuvers): When this Technique is combined with another to create a new maneuver, it allows you to move, perform a maneuver, and move again.

Honestly I see no issue with this.

Given the fact that some players like to scrutinize the most innocuous of wording and take it to mean something completely different, I would specify that the total amount of movement, before and after the attack cannot exceed the movement of the mount.

I can see someone saying, “I can make an arguement that you can move the full distance, shoot and then move the full distance again, because that’s the way I read it.

    Sad, but true.

So let’s not give anyone any wiggle room here.

    Fair point…

    I’ll edit above in red

I love it and think it fills a much needed niche. However, I can think of several other weapons that would work. Sling, Verrucas Sling, Blowgun, Bola, daggers, Spears, Throwing Blades, the special Khitani Compound Longbows given out at last years LARP.

I can understand why longbow does not work, but could you explain your train of thought on why no Flintlock Rifle or Heavy Crossbow?

Skills should be changed to Archery or MRksmanship. Of course, I think Thrown should be added, also. I think a character who rides by on a horse and throws crap at you would be cool.

In a quick study of the internet, I cannot find any accurate evidence to show that slingers and spearmen ever were used mounted. They always seem to be ground-based, probably due to the coordination needed to perform the actions. After all, it is easier to pull a trigger or a bowstring while controlling a horse than spinning a rock over your head or hefting a spear or javalin. I’d personally prefer it NOT including Ranged (Thrown) myself, but I’m not TOO much against it either.

For those that have played the Iron Kingdoms RPG, this is very similar to the talent “Ride By Shot”…which is a good thing since this certainly fills a niche. In the Iron Kingdoms RPG, it only applied to firearms. Perhaps they wanted to keep it more of an ‘agility based talent’, having a keen shot while keeping steady on a horse as opposed to one that requires a feat of strength such as hurling a spear while going full speed on a horse. I am fine keeping it with weapons that require marksmanship. However, perhaps there can be a separate talent that requires a feat of strength such as the spear, launching one from horseback.

I think that this would be great fodder for a ‘signature move’ for any ranged person (though I can’t remember if that is for tricks or can be done with Martial Techniques).

Assuming that the version at the beginning of this thread is the most up-to-date version…

I think that “As Bow” needs to be changed. Probably to “As Weapon”.
Also, the word, “combined” doesn’t fit, here. It implies that you’re combining your mount’s movement with something. I suggest changing, “total combined” to “normal”. Now, by doing this, you’ve limited the movement to 1x pace. So no movement that doubles your pace and no running. But I imagine that those movement types were never part of the intent of the maneuver.

    Correct, changed to normal
