So, I was working on a concept that uses a Long Spear for an Arcane Caster. I had a question about how Whirling Blade interacts with a Long Spear.
First Question.
Is the maximum distance to target = 30ft (Spell Range) or 50ft (Spell range + Weapon’s reach?).Second Question.
Is there a penalty for attacking a target closer than 20ft distant when using whirling blade with a reach weapon? Keep in mind the weapon is under power of the spell, so its effective point of use may be different than the caster’s position.Third Question.
A long spears speed is 6. The spells speed it Weapon Speed +2 or 8. Does that mean the spell is interruptible when used with big weapons?(edit) Fourth Question. Does the weapon used have to be in some ones hand? Or can it be anywhere such as on the ground in the caster’s square, or in a sheath that isn’t peace bonded?

It is not interruptible.

Technically yes, though if you have the Quick Hands (ta) you can ‘drop’ your two-handed weapon to cast the spell and launch your spear away as a Trivial Action.

That being said, only a Psionic caster could pull it off (since an Eldritch caster would have both hands on the weapon and no hand free to cast).

Doesn’t help sword and board casters, though.
