Q: How do characters acquire their starting languages?

A: Characters start with a number of known languages equal to their passive logic score. The player must first choose from their nation’s languages. Once all the characters national languages are learned, the player may choose languages from outside his starting nation.

Comment – Does this take into account Racial Languages? For example, as a Val I get “High Coryani, Native Language.” So, if I have a Passive of 2, do I get “High Coryani, Low Coryani, Language 3, Language 4”? Do I get “High Coryani, Language 1 (Low Coryani), Language 2”?

Arcane/Divine Spellcasting at the same step during character generation

Does this mean Step as in “Choose your Talents” or does this mean “During Character Creation, period”? There are many who argue that getting Prestidigitation from Expert, and then Spell Casting from talents is the ‘same step.’

Q: When a deity or nation gives you access to “any Flail” or “Flails (all)” does that include the Crowsbeak Flail?
    A: Yes, it’s a Flail.

Q: Can an Arcanum Spell Casting talent be taken without having the appropriate Spell Casting skill?
A: No, under both Arcane Spell casting and Divine Spell casting there is a listed Requirement, “the appropriate Arcanum skill as a trained skill.”

I’m not sure of an exception released, but one could be “Unless gotten through a Path” as in theory you COULD gain Spell Casting without a skill that way (but not with any of the current paths).

Q: What is required to learn to use a shield? Do some shields count as light/medium/heavy armor?
A: You need to acquire the Armor Proficiency, Shield Talent as shields count as their own type of armor.

Q: Does armor training cover the use of a shield as a weapon? Does Weapon training cover its use as armor?
A: There is no “Weapon Training: Shields” as taking Armor Training: Shields covers using it as a weapon and as armor.

For Martial Characters, do they only get proficiency in their NATION’S shields, or all Shields?

A: The spells lack of a CTN is intentional.. Please refer to A: RPG, if a spell does not possess an entry it does not require it. this there is no CTN for Fog Cloud . it is simply cast as is, and because of its lack of CTN you cannot add adaptations which modify the CTN. This was intentional.

A: You gain the next Tier of that talent, although you cannot access it until your character tier matches your talent tier.

    Page 120 (Errata)
Under elemental sources add the following, shown in bold

Both the Val’Emman and val’Virdan are considered to be a source of fire for their own spells.

I’m not sure if this is in the books (don’t have it on me), but a clarification about val’Holryn as an Elemental Source may also be warranted here.

A: Characters start with a number of known languages equal to their passive logic score plus any bonus languages granted by their race. When choosing languages the player must first choose from their nation’s languages. Once all the characters national languages are learned, the player may choose languages from outside his starting nation.

Ok brake this down… totally lost me (maybe because I have yet to have my coffee today)

    A: Yes, it’s a Flail.

We will cross that bridge if we ever come to it, but I’m sure it’s next to impossible.

Q: What is required to learn to use a shield? Do some shields count as light/medium/heavy armor?

all shields, they are bad ass that way…..

I should add them, the val’Holryn would be their own source….

As the ones above have been addressed, I’ll continue here.

    Page 166 (Errata)
    Bloodthirsty
Change flaw as follows (shown in bold)

Effect: Your character suffers a -2 penalty to Interaction skills other than Intimidate. Your character must make a Challenging (TN: 20) Mettle: Stand Firm Action Skill Roll Any time you character vanquishes an enemy. If this roll is failed, your character will attack the Vanquished (and thus Helpless) enemy, even if it is in your interest to spare him.

This seems. . . a bit too much to me. What if you vanquish an enemy at 60′ with a spell, and would have to jump down a wall to get at them? Would they simply waste another arrow/spell on them? How does this work if you minion bust a dozen people at once?

Ghost Scale Ss’ressen, add the following to the race’s Other Qualities
    • Under no circumstances can Ghost Scale take the divine archetype or acquire the Divine spell casting talent.

So a Ghost Scale cannot convert to a church after character creation, and gain DSC that way? Is there also a restriction on Rudimentary Prayers?

Undisciplined Psion, change the Special (Restriction) entry to the following:

Special (Restriction): you cannot choose this background if you possess the Arcane or Divine archetypes, and may not acquire any additional spell casting abilities during character creation with the exception of val bloodline powers.

I would add “. . .additional spell casting abilities (including Prestidigitation (ta)) during character creation. . . ”

    Page 100 (Errata)

Tail Bracer add both Ash Spire (Ss’ressen) and Old Coryani (Ss’ressen) under Regions as well as adding Versatile (Piercing) under Qualities.

Don’t have the core book handy, but are the Nierite lands in Canceri referred to as the Ash Spire, or Nier’s Spine? Also, Old Coryani is not a region. It should be Old Coryan, or Illonia.

    Page 186 (Errata)
The Massive Damage Rule, add the following to the end of the paragraph; When playing with the massive damage rules all Heroes, Elites, and Advisories gain 1 additional wound.

    Seems a fairly simple fix.

It’s a flaw… it should suck.. also it says you will attack.. not attack in melee…

the minion issue is a good point, no idea how to handle that one.

According to Henry there would be.. need to ask him of a Ghost Scale can later take up worship of The Fire Dragon for example.

Undisciplined Psion, change the Special (Restriction) entry to the following:

Noted, I’ll change to Illonia… and I was always under the impression the Black Talon came from the Ashe Spire, maybe it would be simple to say Canceri instead?

re: Bloodthirsty – It is ranged AOE spells that really mess that flaw up. For example, if I Castigate and knock out a whole group of 6 minions, then either 1) I do not have to attack, or 2) my character is completely out of the fight. You could say that as soon as I kill one of them, the Bloodthirsty has been satisfied, but it still causes some issue. Additionally, would I push through strain to cast a spell after Bloodthirsty was activated? So many questions. . .

re: Ash Spire and Old Coryan for Ss’ressen – Looking at the ARPG now that I’m home, listing Ash Spire and Old Coryan ARE legitimate regions, as Sulphur Marsh is listed as separate from Tralia.

Not so much a comment on what is there and something which may be needed from a conversation I was having:

Scenario: A Monster picks up an Elorii (or one of those val’???), brings them up 1,000 feet in the air and drops them. The falling person then Slips sideways, stating that they take no damage because the spell prevents attacks. My ruling is twofold – 1) Hitting the ground is not an attack, and the spell says it prevents attacks, and 2) The spell indicates you are out of shift in regards to time, and the attacks miss you because you are swinging where they were or where they will be. While good for swinging a sword, the ground isn’t moving, therefore it isn’t the same.

As such, for clarification: Falling damage (or pushing damage) is not considered an attack, and therefore anything which would prevent an attack won’t work to prevent it.

    You were 100% correct…

I’ll add this as an FAQ question…

    Page 130 (Errata)
Under Initiate of the Gods add the following line under the second to last special:

Special: Priests of Anshar gain the talent Path of the Stars.

You should add something for val’Inares as this is a Bloodline talent (which would increase their Bloodrank).
