Are “Scene” and “Scene (D)” and “Scene (Special)” the same Duration?

    Umm no….

Scene = can not be dispelled
Scene (D) = yes it can
Scene (Special) = has a special rule

Just think it might be simpler and more flexible if they are combinable…and if any part of the Advanced Spell ‘ends’ the entire spell ends. A lot of scene spells have (D) or (Special) and probably should be able to be combined due to their synergy.

For instance, I know Diminish Senses / Black Tongue is a popular advanced spell. Just have a special note that says if one of the effects/base spells ends, the entire spell ends. It allows flexibility with the risk that a spell not normally allowed to ‘end early’ can now be dispelled or ended when the target makes a successful roll, etc.

oh god no, you should look and see what spells you are recommending we make combineable with scene special

Well how about you provide an example or three? I’m just pointing out that having 3 durations all for roughly the same duration will make things more restrictive than necessary.

right i was remembering instant/Special spells, I will take a hell no on combining those spells stand

scene special spells, i only found one that is combine able – ebon orb, and whatever, i dint think its worth changing the rules to make that work

There are plenty of spells that are affected (many of which should be combinable with other “Scene” spells regardless of (D) or (Special) and just have the most restriction duration take precedent). Scene, Scene (D), and Scene (Special) are all ‘scene’ spells with ways to prematurely end the spell either voluntarily or through actions on the targets. I see no reason you can’t combine them with the more restrictive ‘duration’ taking precedence. Therefore, if you combine a Scene and Scene (D), the entire thing is dismissed if the caster dismisses it. Another example is combining Inertial Shield with anything, the advanced version ends if the Inertial Shield ends.

I’d like to mention one of your proposed Advanced Spells combined Black Ice with Earthen Spikes, which wouldn’t be allowed unless my recommendation goes through since one is Duration: Scene (Special) and the other is Duration: Scene (D).

Some spells which aren’t combinable without this change:

    Black Ice / Earthen Spikes
Black Tongue / Diminish Senses / Affliction
Benediction of the Gods / Anything that isn’t Scene (D)
    Celerity / Anything that isn’t Scene (D)
Aspect of the Beast / Claws of the Beast
    Cloud Mind / Confound
    Mind Link / Conviction

That’s just getting through the C’s

    and Scene(Special)

I’m of the mind to say that Scene + Scene (D) = Scene.. you lose the ability to dispel

Any (Special) applies to the advanced spell

My original question concerns all 3, as they are all essentially “Scene” spells.

That sounds reasonable. So you can combine Scene with Scene (D) and it becomes Scene, and Scene (Special) with Scene or Scene (D) it becomes Scene (Special) with whatever special ending condition applying to the advanced.

    Seems reasonable to me.
