I’m open to suggesstions on increasing the player base. I have a regular monthly game and Eric Hughes has handed over the reigns of Cincinnati over to someone. Eric plans to run some Dayton games in the future as well.

I’m pretty much only able to run the 1 game a month and it’s the same core people plus 2-3 others that come and go. None of them are really interested in running, so if I stop running for them, they likely won’t be active players.

I’m always open to suggestions, but I don’t have a ton of free time to do multiple monthly games. I’m also involved with map making (Which I love) and of course heping to plan events, etc. I also know others are doing the same. I was curious how many Harvesters we currently have and what their distribution is.

I also wish there were more books or resources coming out for the game at a more regular pace. It’s a lot easier to get players interested in they see new products at a regular pace. I know PCI is small and not a ful time job for all the employees, but I think there is opportunity for smaller, more frequent supplements.

    John,

As I’ve discussed with Matt Flinn at length, that’s not the goal of being a Harvester. The optimal goal is to find a group, run a game or two for them and then hand off the reins to another group.

If they are unable or unwilling to do this, then the fault doesn’t lie with you, but your role as a Harvester is not to be a designated game master for what is essentially a Home Game. Your role is to go to the different gaming stores and get “new” players to try the game. Running for the same group fails to accomplish what Harvesters are designed to do.

Especially taking into account that you can only run one event a month – you need to cut the umbilical cord and truly be an ambassador for the game and campaign by going to other venues.

I’m definitely interested to hear what other Harvesters are doing specifically, how many games they run? How many stores they run at? etc.

Lindsay and I have a recurring game at a local game store that we move to a new location every couple of months, we have a core of gamers that we bring along. we pick up a couple of part time folks at each new location. We use it as kinda a base, to invite people from conventions back to saying “hey we run a bi weekly game you should join us”

the biggest draw we have is gaming at local conventions, we hit up some local conventions every year and range outside our immediate area when we can to generate new interest when we can.

Gamicon, ICON, AnimeIowa, CheapCon are our local conventions, over the next year we plan to hit Xenocon, something up north (Dans con of the vale maybe, or Milwaukee Summer revel or maybe Convergence it its not too big)

Sounds like you guys have some good ideas going. I run or try to have someone run games at the major Ohio Cons. We’ve had some success with those in the past and I’ll be doing that this year. Finding others to GM at distant cons is a challenge at times. I can’t run at all of them as I’m committed to about 4-5 cons throughout the year as it is.

I may change up my venue and see if we can get a mix of old and new players at another game store. We really only have 2 that woud be set up to run games, so I can try that second one a few times. Unfortunately right now i only have time for 1 / month, but maybe in time I can run a second.

man i have a hard time beliving that we have more gaming stores around here than you do, 2 in iowa city and a few more in cedar rapids that we havent hit up yet. I must have picked up the best place to live /wink.

for us it really is all about hitting up all the conventions we can,
gamicon and cheap con are “gaming conventions”
    Animeiowa is an anime convention
ICON is a scifi / Lit convention

I would be willing to bet if you tap your geeky friends you might find some new venues to show of the best game thats out there.

There are some other stores, but one is just for magic tournaments and the other doesn’t have a ot of gaming tables for RPG’s.

I will probably try the other gaming store next month and see if there’s new interest. At least you and Lindsay can do it together \":)\"
