The three duelists glared warily at each other. The patrician was pale and sweating, but he stood his ground firmly, sword unwavering in his hand. To his left, a student of Giacomo val’Sheem brandished a rapier and her heavy cloak in her outstretched hands, set to a high guard. To his right, an adherent of the Steel Dragon school slowly ran his coiled whip along the edge of his sidesword, the metal on metal setting teeth on edge.
A crowd had gathered at the far ends of the alleyway, eager to watch the conflict but not so eager to participate.
“Please… I’ll pay what I owe. Just let me live, I’ll pay what I can now and ask my family for the rest. They’ll settle my debts!” The patrician’s voice quivered, clearly afraid. The other pair glanced at each other briefly.
“That does me no good; I don’t get paid unless you’re brought back in pieces. If you pay, I get nothing. Nothing personal.” The whip-wielding swordsman settled back into a comfortable guard. “I’m sure the young lady here feels the same way.”
“Don’t presume to speak for me! You disgust me. This bounty is mine, and you know it. You interfered, and I will have satisfaction for the insult after this is over.” The young woman’s face contorted in fury.
“We seem to be at an impasse then, signorina. Would that I could leave such a bounty, but I am somewhat in need myself. We all have our debtors to pay. I cannot leave him to you, you clearly will not leave him to me, and we cannot properly settle your perceived insult between ourselves else our quarry will depart.”
“Where three quarrel, a fourth may soothe.” The voice came from the building above. All three instinctively looked up, and then immediately back down at each other, opening their stances to account for the new potential threat. “Peace, peace. Serafina, stand down. Your temper will get you killed one day. Nicolo, hear me out and we will all profit. And as for you, Signore Eusebio…”
A lithe figure vaulted down and landed neatly between the three. Seemingly unarmed and unarmored, he moved with an exquisite grace and confidence despite the weapons all brandished in his direction. He wore an ornate mask that concealed his features, and the motley of a harlequin. “…for you, Signore, I will purchase your debt from the Cartel, pay these ruffians who would claim the bounty on your head, and even arrange to have the bounty rescinded entirely. Does that sound fair?”
All three glanced at each other in confusion. Eusebio broke the silence; “Who are you?”
“All in good time. Do we have a deal?” The harlequin gestured around to all three, and three bags appeared in his hands. He juggled them briefly, then with a flourish tossed them at the feet of the three would-be combatants. Nicolo sheathed his sword, keeping his whip in one hand, and reached down to inspect the bag. A moment later, he grinned. “This will do nicely for me. Signorina, I’m sure we’ll meet again later.” He turned and walked out of the alley. Serafina snorted in disgust, sheathed her sword, grabbed her bag and stalked out the other way.
“Thank you, thank you!” Eusebio collapsed to the ground sobbing, dropping his sword to clutch the bag of coins.
“You’re most welcome signore. Now, my new friend, come with me. We need to pay off your debt, then we have much to discuss.”

Pulling up the cowl of a travel worn cloak, the man quietly keeps pace with the lucky patrician and his benefactor.
(Very well written Tony, looking forward to more)

“That was GREAT!!” came his deep booming voice. “How do you leap like that? Can you do it again? Do you think I could do that? I think the ground would shake when I landed,” he paused and looked away thinking hard then his eyes got wide, “maybe that would make it better!”
He looked back and forth between the two men expectantly.

Acturis the Bounty HunterNovember 7, 2014 at 11:03 pm #265197AnonymousInactiveAs the crowd disperses a pair of figures can be seen engaged in earnest discussion. One wears ornate heavy armor, the face and gender masked, a large axe strapped to its back. Those with a knowledge of religious iconography give it a wide berth as if unsettled by what they see. The other figure is cloaked and masked, with a pair of finely wrought short swords strapped to its side. Both figures are stocky and could be either short humans or dwarves. The cloaked figure gestures toward the masked figure and patrician, then leans forward to whisper something to the armored figure. It shrugs its shoulders then turns and walks away. The remaining crowd shies away as if fearing contact. The cloaked figure watches then turns back to observe the masked man and patrician. As they walk away it begins to trail behind stealthily, blending into the shadows with an almost unnatural ease.

November 10, 2014 at 2:27 pm #265218AnonymousInactive::While everyone is standing around gawking at the scene, Oozejumper the Mourner Appologist starts passing out hand bills. “The Destroyer of Worlds is Coming. The end is near. Don’t worry though for your gods will surely save you.” Is the headline on the handbill. It then goes on to recount how the universal celebration of Unavache is proof positive that the gods have left humanity to their own devices.
When he approaches the patrician with a hand bill, Oozejumper states the following.
“I seeze. Gods com saves u taday. Hehhehehe”
Turning to the strange benefactor, “Which gawd r u? Cadic? Anshar?”

In what?

November 10, 2014 at 5:33 pm #265220AnonymousInactiveShrugging, a nondescript man obviously ignores the recent happenings, and continues to go about his business. Though his business does seem to take him in the same direction as the man in motley and the patrician…

November 12, 2014 at 4:36 am #265225AnonymousInactiveHaving moved to the back of the group of onlookers, the Hurrianite watched the trio as they squared off, attempting to decide if he should intervene or not. With the arrival of the masked fourth party, Ehryn watches as the two bounty hunters were paid off, raising an eyebrow at the method used by the masked man to buy the patrician’s freedom… or servitude. Seeing the crowd disperse with the chance of bloodshed ended, soon the he stood alone at the end of the alleyway, watching the pair be approached by a gladiator, who was still awestruck by the masked man’s entrance and asking numerous questions as the Uflian man thought about what he saw, waiting to see the answers given and hopefully gleam the reasons for the savior’s appearance…
November 12, 2014 at 9:56 am #265227frootsnaxParticipantAnother figure detached himself from the crowd and approached the “clown” and the patrician. An Altherian of modest build, wearing a broad rimmed hat and a well loved buff coat. He was armed and had clear eyes.
“Excuse me my good sirs. Might I have a moment of your time?” He turned to the Harliquin. “I concur with the gladiator. That was executed with great panache. And I can see you are a generous soul. Could I persuade you to help me as well? I need neither money nor rescuing. But it turns out I have some friends who are interested in starting a dialogue with the Cartel. I have been unsure if this is a good idea or whom to try speaking with. It would seem both of you are knowledgeable about these people. Perhaps you could tell me a little about them. I would be grateful for assistance in an unfamiliar city.”
He took a moment to doff his hat and offer a small bow.
“How do you do? I am Ambassador Tukufu.”
November 12, 2014 at 2:23 pm #265228AnonymousInactiveThe hooded val, surprised by the sudden rush of people into the alleyway, quickly looks behind himself for fear of an attack. Seeing no one, he falls back to the street without attracting attention to himself.
Minutes later several pigeons perched on the roof of a nearby building are startled by something unseen, and fly off towards the center of town.
November 12, 2014 at 6:40 pm #265230AnonymousInactivePushing herself away from the wall Alessia Val’mehan walks up next to the Hurrianite at the end of the alleyway. She touches him gently on the arm to arouse his notice as she slips her slim arm around his. “Come now Ehryn, its rude to stare.” She smiles prettily at him as she gestures down the alley way. “But following discreetly from behind seems to be in fashion, shall we?”
