Special: Elder practitioners have access to a small number of
spells available to Primal and Eldritch casters. Elder casters
increase the Speed of such spells by +1 and reduce the Strain
by -1 to reflect the different teachings of this Arcanum. How are these spells determined? I look through and can’t find any spells that meet the requirement.
June 17, 2015 at 12:15 am #268513AnonymousInactiveThis refers to any spell in the Elemental, Control, and Creation tradition that doesn’t have (Elder) beside it.
Just from the ARPG at Tier 1 . . .
Black Ice
Call to Arms
Entangling Webs
Flash
Storm of Knives
Confound
Halt
Mind Link
Earthen Shied
Elemental Bolt
Gail Force Winds
Heat Wave

June 17, 2015 at 3:46 pm #268532AnonymousInactiveI disagree, the only tradition that both Elder and Primal casters have access to is Elemental, so Elemental spells that dont have primal next to them are affected by that rule not all of their traditions.
June 17, 2015 at 4:09 pm #268535AnonymousInactiveYou are half correct: The rule is for ELDRITCH and Primal, and Eldritch do have Creation. Control, however, you are correct and I dun goofed.
So, the corrected list is (at Tier 1, only from the ARPG):
Black Ice
Call to Arms
Entangling Webs
Flash
Storm of Knives
Earthen Shield
Elemental Bolt
Gail Force Winds
Heat Wave
Earthen SpikesJune 17, 2015 at 4:35 pm #268538AnonymousInactiveit takes a team of us to get there some times but we got there
June 17, 2015 at 5:15 pm #268539AnonymousInactivebut psions and elder both have control, so there is still the same issue with having to alter the speed/strain of non-elder specific spells of the control tradition, right?

That does seem odd. Elder increase Speed and decrease Strain but Psionic do not – but the rule doesn’t mention Psionic (just Primal and Eldritch). On the other hand, I’m not sure how many spells Elder shares with Psionic but not with Primal/Eldritch.

Transmutation and Control tradition are shared with Psionics. Elemental and Creation are shared with Eldritch. So it’s an even split. I had always thought they had the penalty to the traditions that overlapped with psionics as well, but I guess not.
June 17, 2015 at 11:18 pm #268555AnonymousInactiveIts made my ‘flamethrower’ build have a speed problem.
A Sustained heat wave is now speed 7 (and interruptible); still great once I get it going!
Rapid Spell, here I come (when I get the 4 ranks…)
