I have most of my Flaws written and will post them asap. But, I wanted to bounce some ideas for Submissive off of you guys. Decent mechanics elude me.
1) I am not sure I am comfortable with the negative conotations with the name.
2) I dont want it to be X penalty to social skills (specified or otherwise)…we have a ton of those already.
3) I contemplated having social encounter effects be increased/decreased by 1 in regards to persuasion/intimidation…but then I remembered that is a 1 way street. (PCs do not get their dispositions changed by NPCs).Ideas?
I did come up with this, which does not fit the bill for “Submissive”, but I think is a decent flaw.
Born Follower: You may never take or gain the Born Leader or Leadership Talents. Additionally, at the beginning of combat, you may not take any agressive action or advance toward any Foe until after an Ally has done so.

Have to make a horror check when dealing with people of a higher status/opposite sex/etc?

The world is populated with people who refuse to take initiative, make the hard choices and do the right thing. The PCs aren’t among them though. Even if it’s possible to make a character that is useful and thinks that way, I don’t want to provide mechanics to encourage it.

If any of you remember Conan the Destroyer (the 2nd Arnold/Conan movie) there was a ‘submissive’ little thief named Malak who did help save the group. He would qualify as a hero, in as much as any of those thief-like characters qualify as heroes. And I think he fits the flavor of this flaw as much as anyone.
Not every hero fits the same mold. And as much as I find Bloodthirsty a distasteful flaw for a hero, many PCs have taken it. If it fits the flavor of the book, we should include it as an option. Someone might want to take it. Even though you might find it distasteful.

July 3, 2015 at 11:59 pm #268862AnonymousInactiveOk, if you’re going for that meme I would then go with something like Natural Follower or Indecisive, probably the former. It could also be something like Lacks Initiative.
I’ve posted a write up on Dropbox that targets initiative and control effects. See what you think.

Additionally, at the beginning of combat, you may not take any aggressive action or advance toward any Foe until after an Ally has done so. I missed this before I posted my write up. I definitely like the limitation on Leadership and Born Leader.
Here’s the question: If they would gain Leadership or Born Leader say through a Path, what happens? I’m thinking it would negate each other, buying off the Flaw. If that happens, have they already invested in Tier I Leadership or can they take that level again?
Also, can they qualify for any Paths that require Leadership?

It opens up Pandora’s Box for players wanting to find all sorts of creative ways of “negating” their flaws. If you didn’t want your character to have said flaw, then why did you take it to begin with? Ya know?
