I was playing around with my precalculated CTN spreadsheet and I came up with a wild base spell. I want to make certain that I have this calculated correctly.
Farstrike+Adaptation Alterarea+Adaptation Selective Spell+Adaptation Lingering Spell+ Spell Affinity Farstrike.
By my count this is:
Base
CTN 27
Speed 11 (Sustain 11)
Strain 18
Range 0
Area 20′ radius
Target AvoidanceEffect: Target all targets in range with melee attack except for 4 allies (Passive logic = 4)

Target AvoidanceEffect: Target all targets in range with melee attack except for 4 allies (Passive logic = 4)
Break that down a little more:
CTN = Base 20 + 4 + 3 + 4 -2 = 29
Speed = Weapon speed 4 (excep broad sword + Base 2 + 2 + 1 + 0 +0 = 9
Strain = Base 5 + 3 + 5 + 2 + 0= 15
Range = 15′ cone (adaptation: alter area talent changes it 0)
Area = adaptation: alter area talent changes it to 10′ radius
Targets avoidanceNotes: This uses 4 different talents, none of the adaptations are adaptation from the spell. Additionally, adaptation: select spell requires that the spell has a duration of instantaneous, while adaptation: lingering arcanum makes it sustained (for one additional time, with a occurrence rate of the original casting speed). I am not sure if adaptation: select spell still can apply after applying lingering arcanum because of this.
Is all that math correct?
July 27, 2015 at 12:26 am #269174AnonymousInactiveA couple of problems.
1. 20′ radius is not a valid area. (pg.347 list). Even though its in the adaptation description.
2. Selective Spell is not compatible with Lingering Spell. Lingering changes it to a Sustained spell, and Selective Spell requires it to have a duration of Instant.Probably more useful to go with a more basic spell:
Far Strike + Expand Area (25′ cone) + Adapt:Lingering Spell + Spell Affinity
CTN: 24
Speed (St): Wpn+5 (+6) Sustain 5 (once only)Or even just:
Far Strike + Expand Area (25′ cone) + Delay Strain
CTN: 20
Speed (St): Wpn+3 (+6)July 27, 2015 at 12:27 am #269175AnonymousInactiveHere’s what I come up with:
Effect. CTN / Spd (Str)
Farstrike: 20 / +2 (+5)
Alter Area: +4 / +2 (+3)
Selective: +3 / +1 (+5)
Lingering: +4 / +0 (+2)
Affinity: -2
Final: 29 / Weapon +5 (+15)Now the area can be only 10′ Radius as that’s the biggest Standard area (pg. 347). The spell isn’t interruptible, since it’s made in conjunction with a melee attack. The Strain doesn’t start to tick down until after the Recovery. You can apply Selective before Lingering.
That’s what I see anyway.

As for the lingering spell vs selective spell… RAW would have it that you can apply selective first. But I think -original intent- will prove that they are not compatible. Anyhow I certainly won’t combine them now that I know there is a potential judges call regarding them.
Thanks for the quick input guys.
July 27, 2015 at 1:16 am #269177AnonymousInactiveOrder of applying adaptations only matters regarding eligibility.
Spell Adaptations must be applied first.
Talent adaptations must all be eligible at the end of the build.July 27, 2015 at 1:37 am #269178AnonymousInactiveYes that is the math that I came up with. The CTN 27 was after applying spell affinity. I was using an exceptional broadsword, so weapon speed 4.
Nope, check the math. CTB 29 after the spell affinity. 31 before. I think.
