It is with great regret that I must tell you that one of our good friends passed away yesterday. He was a man who many of you saw and gamed with at Origins, Gen Con or many of the other shows he and his wife attended. He was a big, boisterous man, who’s smile and laugh was second only to his heart.
Last night I received a phone call telling me that while biking, Rick Brill was struck by a car and passed away. I am still stunned. Our community is diminished by the loss of his presence.
I’m sure you’ll join me in sending our best wishes, thoughts and prayers to Toni and their daughter.

September 28, 2015 at 4:42 pm #269855AnonymousInactiveI was shocked by the news this morning as well. Rick was such a big part of this community and such a great man all around. He is going to be widely missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to Toni and the whole family.
September 28, 2015 at 4:44 pm #269856AnonymousInactiveIt is never easy to lose a loved one so suddenly, they will be in our thoughts. Thank you for letting us know, Henry.

I didn’t know Rick well but had the pleasure of playing with him at several Origins and Arcaniscon tables over the years. My heart and prayers go out to his wife and daughter. Thank you Matt and Josh for the links.
September 30, 2015 at 3:28 am #269871AnonymousInactiveMatt Blank was kind enough to take the lead and setup a GoFundMe page to help Toni and Samantha out with any unforeseen costs, in the immediate moment or in Sam’s future, in case you’d like to help in a different way:

Additional, Rick’s longtime employer, the University of Minnesota – Duluth, has setup a college fund for Samantha as well. I’m working on tracking down that information as well, in case there is interest, and will post it here once I have it.
October 2, 2015 at 1:11 pm #269889AnonymousInactiveI’d love to make a donation to a college fund.

October 4, 2015 at 7:37 pm #269906AnonymousInactiveAny news on the scholarship fund?
October 4, 2015 at 9:37 pm #269907AnonymousInactiveI was not able to do so this weekend, with Rick’s funeral and other memorials held throughout the weekend. I will do some digging later this evening or Monday though.

I saw the pictures on Facebook. It looked like a very fitting farewell to a wonderful man!

Rick loved Arcanis and he loved the people and friends he made while playing. It will be sad to see his characters sit on our shelves.
Toni
