I know that in the Primer and in previous books, there are lists of active Legions. Is there any list that includes the origin, patron deity, or focus of the legion? For example, Lex Talionis is known to work with the inquisition, but are the other legions known for a specific focus?

(I don’t have all the published books, so if this is found in one of them, the book title would be a great start for me).

    Greetings,

The Legion of the Watchful Hunter is an active Cadican legion supported by Plexus. Focus is scout / skirmish / special forces type stuff. They’re referenced in at least a couple of the mods. If you have more questions about them, let me know. As for others, I can look later for the list from the ARG book when I get home if someone hasn’t already beaten me to it.

Hat posted this list a while ago, and I have added some annotations related to information which has been revealed either in Henry-Posts or in story:

The Legio Anguis Reptatus – The “Special Forces” legion specializing in asymmetrical warfare, contains many mages.
The Legio Comae Triumphus ab Sol Invictus (Legion of the Triumphant Rays of the Invisible Sun)
The Legio Lex Talionis – The Inquisition Legion, heavily influenced by Illiirite and Sarishan worship
The Legio Sol Negris (Legion of the Black Sun) – NOT AN ACTIVE LEGION, manned by ancient undead
The Legion of Absolute Retribution (val’Emman Nier) – Henry has stated there are no active val’Emman legions.
The Legion of Abstruse Sapience (Althares) (Elements)
The Legion of Avenging Thunder (Hurrian) – Currently stationed in Sicaris, commanded by the eldest (surviving) son of Senator Tensen-Balin.
The Legion of Blazing Judgment (Nier)(reinforced)
    The Legion of Broken Shadows
    The Legion of Burnished Steel
The Legion of Crusading Light (Illiir)
    The Legion of Dark Majesty
    The Legion of Deliverance (Mixed)
The Legion of Grim Lamentation – NOT A PLAYER SELECTABLE LEGION, AS THEY ARE INDEPENDENT OF THE CORYANI EMPIRE AND VERY MYSTERIOUS. THESE ARE THE GUARDIANS OF THE PORTALS OF ANSHAR.
The Legion of Heaven’s Blade (Iliir)
    The Legion of Honorable Accord
    The Legion of Indomitable Truth
    The Legion of Iron Shadow
    The Legion of Mighty Toneth
The Legion of Radiant Glory – NOT A PLAYER SELECTABLE LEGION, AS THEY WERE SENT (TO DIE) TO DAR ZHAN VOR DECADES AGO. WAS LED BY CALMEMNON VAL’ASSANTE’
The Legion of Searing Light (Illiir)
The Legion of Searing Purity (Nier)
The Legion of Searing Revenge (val’Emman Nier) – Henry has stated there are no active val’Emman legions.
The Legion of Stalking Shadow (Cadic)
The Legion of Sweet Sorrow (Larissa)
The Legion of the Binding Oath (Sarish) (Elements)
The Legion of the Blessed Spirit (Beltine)
The Legion of the Crimson Moon – Cadic
The Legion of the Crusading Light
The Legion of the Defiant Shield (reinforced)
The Legion of the Doom of Chendo (Ghosts)(Nier)
The Legion of the Fervent Inquisition (Nier)
The Legion of the Iron Guardian (Hurrian)
The Legion of the Might of the Empire (Hurrian) (Formerly Legion of the Accursed)
The Legion of the Mighty Oak (Saluwé) (Elements)
The Legion of the Ordained Prophet (Elements)
The Legion of the Pride of Chendo (val’Emman Nier) – Henry has stated there are no active val’Emman legions.
The Legion of the Pure Spirit (Beltine)
The Legion of the Reluctant Warrior (Hurrian)
The Legion of the Rising Phoenix [Became the Knightly Order of the Phoenix, NOT SELECTABLE]
The Legion of the Sacred Trust (Beltine)
The Legion of the Shining Pillar (Sicaris/Hurrian) – No longer, as far as I am aware, an active legion. The garrison of Sicaris is now the Legion of Avenging Thunder.
The Legion of the Singers of Sweet Savona (val’Sheem/Larissa – Neutral; val’Borda/Cadic – Rebel)
    The Legion of Unyielding Courage
The Legion of the Storm Lord (Hurrian)
The Legion of the Unrepentant Heart (Mixed)
The Legion of the Unsettled Quietus (Neroth) DESTROYED – Battle of Enpebyn
The Legion of the Vindictive Sea (Yarris) (Elements)
The Legion of the Watchful Hunter (reformed) – Currently stationed in Eppion in the League of Princes.

The Legion of Heaven’s Blade (Iliir)
The Legion of Radiant Glory – NOT A PLAYER SELECTABLE LEGION, AS THEY WERE SENT (TO DIE) TO DAR ZHAN VOR DECADES AGO. WAS LED BY CALMEMNON VAL’ASSANTE’

Wrong way around. Calcestus was assigned the Legion of Radiant Glory. Calmemnon was assigned the Legion of Heaven’s Blade. ARG.pg35.Column 2

I think a better way to organize the list would be PC Appropriate or Not PC Appropriate….

Legion of Searing Light – (Illiir)
    Legion of Shining Glory
Legion of Stalking Shadow – (Cadic)
Legion of Sweet Sorrow – (Larissa) – previously commanded by Emperor Scipio Aemilianus val’Assante
Legion of the Binding Oath – (Sarish)
Legion of the Blessed Spirit (Beltine)
Legion of the Creeping Asp – (Legio Anguis Reptatus, presumably Cadic) – “Special Forces” legion, specializing in asymmetrical warfare, high number of Battlemages
Legion of the Crusading Light – (presumably Illiir)
Legion of the Defiant Shield – (presumably Hurrian)
Legion of the Fervent Inquisition – (Nier)
Legion of the Iron Guardian (Hurrian)
Legion of the Might of the Empire – (Hurrian) – formerly Legion of the Accursed
Legion of the Mighty Oak – (Saluwé)
Legion of the Ordained Prophet – (presumably Larrisa)
Legion of the Pure Spirit – (Beltine)
Legion of the Reluctant Warrior – (Hurrian)
Legion of the Sacred Trust – (Beltine)
Legion of the Shining Pillar – (Hurrian) – previously garrisoned at Sicarus, replaced by the Legion of Avenging Thunder, may be inactive

Legion of the Storm Lord – (Hurrian)

    Legion of the Unrepentant Heart

    Not PC Appropriate
Legion of Absolute Retribution – (Nier, val’Emman) – Destroyed during final days of First Imperium, no currently active Emman legions, Henry quote
Legion of Grim Lamentation – (Anshar) – protectors of Ansharan Gates, operates independently of the Empire, Henry quote

Legion of the Pride of Chendo – (Nier, val’Emman) – Destroyed during final days of First Imperium, no currently active Emman legions, Henry quote

Legion of Unsettled Quietus – (Neroth) – destroyed during Battle of Enpebyn
Legion of Unyielding Courage – noted as unavailable in Codex Arcanis
Legion of Vigilance – personal guard of the Emperor

Clarifying the current status of the Legion of Radiant Glory and Legion of the Shining Pillar would be great. Also, does anyone else remember the Legion of Dark Majesty being Sarishian? Have any legions been founded/refounded in the last 40 years and become available again?

Legion of the Sundering Rays (Also known as the 12th) was the legion I used for In Plain Sight

Always saw it as a minor, but active Illirite legion

Legion of Dark Majesty was Sarishian in the early days of the Coryani Empire but supposedly is not anymore. (there was an early Arcanis module with pregen PCs in the Legion of Vigilance that included Sarenta val’Mehan, originally from the Legion of Dark Majesty. That module was set in the past during a rebellion in Abessiois & those PCs stopped an assassination attempt on the Emperor in IC 300ish by the Patriarch).

I obliquely referenced the Legion when writing the old campaign module An Evening of Wealth and Taste.

In some conversation I had with Henry he stated that the Legion was no longer Sarishian in modern times. I don’t have notes. But iirc the legion is now primarily Nerothian.

Yes that must be where I am remembering that from.

Anyone remember any other Sarishian legions? What legion did General Dorjan val’Mehan command?

Isn’t the Legion of Shining Glory the one which became the seed for the Shining Patrol once Altheria left the Coryani Empire?

That sounds possible. The only reference I found was in two IC blurbs in the PrC section, and I do remember one was for the Altherian Sharpshooter.

If anyone can confirm, I would be happy to move it to the Not Appropriate list.

The Legion of Shining Glory was mentioned because the legionnaire who provided the flavor quote was from that legion. So the Shining Glory seems to exist at least as of the old campaign, and was presumably deployed against the Ssethregorans in a way that allowed interaction with the Shining Patrol.

Edit: The same legionnaire also provided the quote for the Tal Kanath PrC as well, for what it’s worth.

Added the Legion of Bound Disciples, from The Blessed Lands
