The bottom of pg. 32 of the 5e Sorcerous Pacts book mention an excerpt regarding the Elorii created Niatsa Swords. It mentions how mechanically they are identical to a long and short sword, but also mentions the following: “This elegant sword is slightly curved, with a razor-sharp blade and point, allowing the wielder to use it as a slashing or piercing weapon …”

    1) Mechanically it is identical to a long or short sword. Does it this mean that any mechanic that specifically requires the use of a long or short sword also work with a Niatsa sword?

    2) If mechanically these weapons are identical to a long or short sword, how is the “can be used as a slashing or piercing weapon” feature implemented as mechanically the long sword is only slashing and short sword is only piercing. Was the intention meant to be read as the following?

Naitsa Long sword – d8 Slashing, Versatile (d10), Versatile damage (piercing)
Naitsa Short sword – d6 Piercng, Finesse, Light, Versatile damage (slashing)

The fluff and mechanics are not fully in synch.

My belief is that the niatsa style of blade is simply the eloran (fluff) version of the standard long and short sword. Baring any aditional text on certs
