Hello everyone,
I was able to pin down some details on when and where ArcanisCon 2020 may be held and what it entails.
Before I begin, let me stress this is TENTATIVE and SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

We’re looking at a 1-round event Friday morning, with a 2-round Special Event that evening.
Saturday starts with a 1-round event and then a 2-round Battle Interactive.
There will be other smaller events, (for example, a Marketplace), but these are still in the planning stages.
Pat Loboyko will be on hand to sketch characters and take commissions illustrating your Arcanis Hero!Badges
Badges for the 2-days, 3-nights is $40. There will not be any further charges for events. What if I can’t make it on X day?
Not sure about that. We have a contingency plan, but the hope is that you’ll come for the entire weekend for the full experience.Just a reminder, I’m leaving tomorrow for 3 weeks, so if you have any questions that PCI Staffers can’t answer, I’ll get to them as soon as I return.
Thank you everyone and I hope to see you there!

(A) Those dates would work for me.
(B) That’s asking a lot of the judges to go three slots all day, both days. Personally I don’t usually want to judge more than 2 slots in any given day. Also as I understand it, under this format you are asking judges to learn 6 mods? That’s also a big ask if true. Maybe the mods can be played in any order and tables can migrate between judges? If there is a narrative reason, maybe that’s important to arrange things this way, maybe it needs to be that way.
I guess I can always skip judging and just play if i decide it’s too much ….

I share some of Eric’s hesitation about if I volunteer at all as a GM, signing up for all of the events. As a possible thought, allow a table to have more than 1 part time GM, so the same people sit at the same table through the entire event, but if say Eric and I are each a partial, he potentially runs 3 slots worth of events and I run the other 3.
The Con opens on my birthday, so it’d be nice to play at least part of it. If there are strong reasons to leave things the way you’ve proposed that’s fine, I’ll just need to do some thinking.
With a sweep of his hat,
Paul

That would be exciting! You were missed at Origins!October 2, 2019 at 6:06 pm #277515AnonymousInactiveI missed going to Origins, playing, seeing everone, too. Ah well, it seemed the practical choice at the time.
October 2, 2019 at 9:52 pm #277516AnonymousInactiveIs there going to be a Battle Interactive?
October 2, 2019 at 10:59 pm #277517AnonymousInactiveI’m probably in for this as outlined, but I share Eric and Paul’s GM concerns. 2 standalones, plus the special event, plus a BI is a lot to prep. (Heck, it’s a lot to write, especially since I’m assuming that tables will come in both ARG and 5E versions.)

To be honest, my concern isn’t prep time at least personally. More is better, prepped is better than cold, but it can be still be done reasonably. My personal conundrum is while I usually volunteer to run the BI and perhaps an extra slot or two, I haven’t generally eaten the entire con. This last Origins was an exception, though I guess to be fair I probably would have done so this Origins. It just wouldn’t be my birthday at the con.

I guess we’ll see how it works out.
October 3, 2019 at 12:48 am #277519AnonymousInactiveYa, having to eat everything premiering at the convention is a huge hit from the judges. I wonder if they could start the con a day early for judges and slot zero and playtest a bunch of stuff to help ameliorate it, and maybe do an after con special for the judges like they have done in the past at certain (rare) historic events

I wonder if they could start the con a day early for judges and slot zero and playtest a bunch of stuff to help ameliorate it, and maybe do an after con special for the judges like they have done in the past at certain (rare) historic events Playtesting at the Con hardly hardly leaves much time to review or adapt the material based on feedback..I think that’s probably impractical.
Zero slots are always welcome. I don’t know a single judge who isn’t happy to enjoy them when offered. But again, if the zeroes are on site the day before, then presumably all the judges would have read the mods before hand. Usually judges want the zero slots to experience the mod before they read and run it…
I may be in the minority but I am usually happy to “eat” mods as long as I’m essentially getting the same cert for it. That’s standard practice in living campaigns, so I usually don’t mind that. My big concern is 6 different slots in two days including a BI and whatever the special event turns out to be. Yowza. That’s a lot!
I liked Hat’s idea of multiple judges swapping in and out from a table. I don’t know if it’s too much of a headache to muster that way.But if I only had to commit for the BI (and maybe a mod on the other day) that would be WAY easier on me as a judge.

January 1, 2020 at 10:37 pm #277621AnonymousInactiveHenry,
The information had been previously posted by you, just not in this thread. Thanks for re-posting it here.
Next question: How/when can we actually sign up for the event? Having arranged my air travel and hotel room, I’d like to make sure I can actually play when I arrive.
And thank you all, for doing this. - AuthorPosts
