How about some aspects of Khitan that we've had revealed to us! - The Khitani do not accept Anshar as one of the Pantheon, only worshiping the other 11 Gods. - The Khitani (likely do to above) have a distrust of snakes. - Known existing Ul families are the ul'Rankin, ul'Jaya, ul'Hsin, ul'Shi, ul'Tang, ul'Zheng. - The 'scions of Sarish' in the Khitani Empire are a Human family following the banishment of the val'Tai (the Goshin). - At least some followers of Nier in Khitan follow Nier's aspect as the Lord of Slaughter above others. - The known followers of Illiir (the Idiot Priests) follow a form of prophetic mysticism focused on the sun. - The Khitani do not (necessarily) view Manetas as a bad-guy, to the point that their Sleeping Emperor chose the Uls based on their loyalty to Manetas. - The Sleeping Emperor claims to be a Valinor, specifically "Larissa's Valinor of Dreams". - The Khitani use slaves. - The Khitani have a dueling culture, known as the Vendetta Circle, where you fight to settle a matter and must abide by the results. - One Ul family has been known to be ordered destroyed by the Sleeping Emperor almost 300 years previously during the 2nd Coryani-Khitani War. - One family (the ul'Lo) were almost wiped out by the ul'Zheng prior to the creation of the Vendetta Circle tradition. - Like China, the Khitani have a monopoly on silk production, and the ul'Wei have a monopoly on silk production in Khitan. - Opium is, if not common, grown and used among the Khitani. - There is a city in southern Khitan called Chengal, known for being a den of debauchery. - There are criminal organizations known as the Tongs, which are common in the southern regions such as Chengal. - The Khitani seem to use Valinor imagery, possibly indicating a more prominent aspect of Valinor worship among them (makes sense since there Emperor is a Valinor). - Like in Coryan, the Vals/Uls form a distinct ruling class and it is difficult for normal humans to move up in their society. - There is a distinct. . . almost Islamic air to the Khitani worship (insofar as Islam means "To Submit" compared to the fairly liberal MCoC). They have their jinqu ritual every morning, there are purification ritual for those who contact 'heretical' groups such as Ansharans, etc. This is also similar to other Valinoric dynasties such as Xabal in Bastion prior to its destruction. |

Cody, what's your sources for this? I'd like to look this stuff up. I assume some might be in the Blessed Lands book but I've not had the chance to dive completely into it. |

Hello Cody, Very nice resource for players. Just to clarify one thing: Nierite wrote: - The Khitani do not (necessarily) view Manetas as a bad-guy, to the point that their Sleeping Emperor chose the Uls based on their loyalty to Manetas. It's not so much that they were chosen due to their loyalty TO Manetas, as much as it was that the Val families that were chosen respected and adhered to the Celestial Hierachy (upon which the Kalindruhl is based). |

More of what we know about the Khitani: - their Frontline troops make extensive use of crossbow based weaponry, as opposed to the Coryani Legions and Milandisian Knights which are mostly melee focused. - the ul'Zheng make up a significant portion of the Khitani command structure, often leading troops into battle. - the ul'Zhang believe in the concept of "the culling" where they protect the many by sacrificing the few, specifically the weak and infirm - the Khitani Nierites, especially the ul'Tang, venerate Nier as Lord of Slaughter, and their primary group are the Slaughter Priests of Nier. - the Khitani Nerothians have the ability to poison people and turn them into zombie like creatures. - Khitani Beltinians can summon, or at least awaken, shades with bells. - the ul'Rankin priests of Yarris are known to make sacrifices to water spirits, such as Undine. - there are a group of Khitani Uls of Saluwe who form very close bonds to Tigers, even taking on aspects of their companions. - there is a corps of Khitani Cavalry - The area between the Vastwood and Khitan is a bit of a Frontier zone nominally under Imperial control Caledonia the Prean (sp?) Reach. It is a rather cosmopolitan region, but dominated by ethnic Khitani. - Oh, and there are KHITANI DRAGONS WHICH ARE IN THE FORM OF CHINESE DRAGONS!!!! |

Members of BEAST said the Khitani "dragons" are not true dragons. From what I experienced at the BI they seemed to lack the intelligence of great drakes and true dragons. |

Speaking from a somewhat in the know side, I can assure you they were at least as intelligent as an average Player Character as the stats did not have of the Flaws which denote low intelligence. |

Interesting. Good to know. It's a rare BI I don't have the behind the screen peek. Tukufu hopes to never see them again. Maybe Khitan only had those specific examples... |
