You cannot possibly be serious when you say that a 2-3 room home off on the periphery or low / middle class district of a city would cost "tens of thousands of gold".
Obviously not. But let's be honest - RIGHT now you can say, my character has a small one bedroom flat in Grand Coryan and NO ONE would blink an eye. No money is exchanged, either real or in-game.
What the KS option is for those, like John Bellando (not picking on you,John - just using you as an example as you noted your family history) who wants a CERTED property that is beyond what people can hand wave away.
So no - what I'm doing here is not anything like what you described. As far as I'm concerned, and I don't think any of the Staff would have an issue with me saying this, ANYONE can state that they have a small apartment or home in the "not affluent" part of town. It won't be certed or fancy, but you certainly can.
What I have heard is people wanting the option to buy the Villas, manors, farms, and even the vineyard I used in the example. AFAIK there isn't a player who has the in-game gold to purchase that, so I made this option to give them what they wanted.
And while we're taking about bad precedents, etc - I debate AT LENGTH with my business partners about what we offer to the players for money. I don't want to rip-off anyone and want them to get the most for the money. I try and think on how to assure that everyone who places their support to us in cash will not feel any buyer's remorse later. I'm nixed quite a few ideas, such as putting a Reward Level where you pay to write a monster, Talent, Path for the game. I know that many other KS do that and I am astonished that people pay big bucks for that. I won't do that, because we've always had an open door policy and strive very hard to allow the player unprecedented access to us.
So when I put up ANY reward level, it is done with great consideration and with an eye on giving that patron the best bang for his buck.
Now, before you write that you didn't say that, I know you didn't, but that's the vibe I'm getting so I wanted to get this out here before this spiraled out any further.
I hope that this post clearly gives you (and everyone else) a clear delineation of what the property purchased on the KS is and what you can freely do during the campaign.
