What are the story consequences for val that go primal? I’m sure there are some.
July 20, 2014 at 11:12 pm #264126AnonymousInactivedefine primal
July 20, 2014 at 11:15 pm #264127AnonymousInactivePrimal casting.
July 20, 2014 at 11:16 pm #264128AnonymousInactiveDefinately do-able.
Do be aware of the difficulties of making it work long-term (unless you’re just after one or two low TN spells) as keeping your Arcanum up, taking the extra DSC talents really dig into your available level options.
July 20, 2014 at 11:19 pm #264129AnonymousInactiveWhat I was wondering was how other val and the church view such activity.
July 20, 2014 at 11:30 pm #264130AnonymousInactiveWell as far as the books and rules say, You dont have to worship elemental powers, ancestors or animism to be a primal caster.
But the flavor and paths of the primal caster certainly lean to the heretical side, so…… if you play a normal primal caster, you are certainly a heretic, and if you play a atypcal primal caster, you might be taken as a heretic anyway
July 20, 2014 at 11:50 pm #264131AnonymousInactiveSo I can follow the Mother Church of Coryan, and benifit from mother church spells. But I live with a secret and am in constant fear of discovery? Sounds like I am one xenophobe away from a lynching.
July 21, 2014 at 12:40 am #264132AnonymousInactivePersonal view: You cannot be an official member of the Mother Church because you effectively worship whatever spirit power gives you your spells. However, there is nothing official either way as far as I’m aware in the rules.
July 21, 2014 at 12:56 am #264133AnonymousInactiveThat is a little thorny Cody as the moment that ones faith leaves the church and when one leaves membership of the church are not the same moment. See Of darkness light.

I run a Val primal caster, and that is exactly what he is. He often hides/switches identities, does his best to disguise his primal casting as psionic, and openly vocally espouses his faith in mother church even though he really is pretty much a heretic in an attempt to throw people off the scent.
But why is it any worse for a val than for any other primal caster? Heck, if anything it would seem that they have a better chance of disguising it or pulling strings to have their “eccentricities” ignores. If a val primal caster and ook of the north both play all the same modules, they both get exposed to the same people who might hate primal casters, no matter what their families are. So it would seem more likely that ook of the north would get burned at the state than the Val.

There is plenty of evidence that primal casters recognize the PoM as “big spirits” and offer them respect. And if you primarily reside in the Blessed Lands or Hinterlands and/or you are private/discrete then I don’t think its a big deal.
If you’re running around as a witch advertising your ability to hex people … well yeah that could generate interest. So is seeking converts in thee Western Lands or the heartland of a PoM country. And of course Inquisitors won’t like you. But maybe elorii will?
Bottom line … I foresee no special problems for a primal val due to their valness.
July 21, 2014 at 5:14 am #264137AnonymousInactiveTo me the way the question was posed smacks of something that is going to be used to justify something on down the line that is not nearly as agreeable, kinda a bait and switch type setup.
so what are you actually planning on doing with this Eric?
July 21, 2014 at 6:37 pm #264144frootsnaxParticipant
Well we’ve worked through the chariot and man catcher staff designs. Maybe he’s cycling back to the attack geese of the Panari “air corp” … or maybe his character is just going to be another Mourner?Like Wiley Coyote it’s hard to guess exactly what Eric’s going to dream up next.
July 21, 2014 at 7:41 pm #264148AnonymousInactiveFor the record…i loved the geese. The Panari IKs even released stats for them…they had a “wing buffet” attack. Hmmm…..*starts writing stats*
July 21, 2014 at 10:43 pm #264151AnonymousInactiveMatt, if you are bringing the Geese back you have to bring back the heretical cult of the Demon Goose as well. The Demon Goose was when I would share spells a host of personal spells with one of the geese. Spells included horrific visage, produce flame, armor, and barkskin. Plus something that let it grow fangs.

As for the rest of you… I already stated in another thread what I was doing. I am making Elsa the Ice Queen from Frozen at the special request of my 5 y.o. daughter. She has brain washed me with the movie and the song Let it Go. So before you guys throw a wet blanket on my party, you have to watch Frozen at least 10 times, and listen to Let it Go at least 50.

Now for Josh and anybody else that insists on spoilers. Here is the build I have thus far…

The part about being “one xenophobe away from a lynching” is covered in the movie. It is also covered in the back story for the PC. In the PC’s case a lynch mob caused her to flee Almeric to the mountains of Ulfilia.
Now if you want something to debate, take a look at the Gust of Wind / Elemental Bolt advanced spell in Custom Advanced Spells I posted.
