Ansharans, Gates and the val’Inares

    So I was looking at designs for a pugilist character and of course thought of Ansharans and Bearers of Woe. And of course with Ansharans you also start thinking about travel by Gate. And I discovered that the ability to attune to Gates is apparently only found in the bloodline talents of the val’Inares. The racial talent “Path of the Stars” seems to be the only way to activate the Gates.

    This has really gotten me scratch hint my head. That means that human, dark-kin, gnomish (etc etc) Anointed Priests and Holy Champions (Beares of Woe…) can’t activate the Gates of Anshar or qualify to become Ansharan Gate Keepers.

    Is this an over sight? Or in the alternative, has it always been that only the val’Inares could activate the gates? And given that some val’Inares are moving to Abessios, is that a potential threat to the continuing staffing/use of the Gates at some future point?

    Eric,

    My guess is that it’s an oversight. Looking back at the D20 rules for Priests of Anshar, the ones who took the Travel domain got the ability. There’s also precedent for bloodline abilities to also be Devout abilities. Both of the T1 val’Borda abilities are both Racial and Devout. If you don’t see something official here soon, I’d take it to the Ask the StatMonkey thread.

    Now, that said, I can see a lot of argument for only the val’Inares to be able to activate the gates as well. My guess is still an oversight though.

    Paul is correct – it was an oversight.

    Priests of Anshar (of any racial variety) that are sufficiently skilled, can open an Ansharan Gate.

    Okay good to know. I thought that was the way it should be … but then I thought surely some one playing a dark kin Ansharan would have brought it up by now. I’ll make a note of it under ask the stat monkey.

    I am VERY glad it was an oversight. My Gnome Priest of Anshar dreams of the day he can do this!!

    I have to assume though that the Ansharan Gate Keeper path is still limited to the val’Inares?
