So in the campaign document it states that we cannot be from Canceri, but in the Ashen Hide entry it says they have to be from Canceri. Therefore, no Ashen Hide in the campaign, correct?

As of right now, that is correct.
January 18, 2014 at 5:51 am #255451AnonymousInactiveI keep hoping they’ll errata that to allow Ashen Hide since they don’t really seem to be part of Canceri (that just happens to be where their volcano is). I also suggested adding an addon to the Kickstarter for a cert allowing Ashen Hide but that was never added. Failing Agamassi (which I missed getting), I’d prefer my secondary char as Ashen Hide (compared to Black Talon).

Like most ss’ressen, the clutch is ruled by a female oligarchy. The Ashen Hide are devout followers of the Fire Dragon, whom they believe to be a divine aspect of Nier. For their part, the Dark Triumvirate of Canceri is happy to incorporate this small addition to the worship of Nier in exchange for such potent and fervent allies. In recent times, the Milandric Church has also recognized worship of the Fire Dragon in its doctrine. Whether or not this will have an effect on the Ashen Hide remains to be seen.
To me, this says:
- Ashen Hide worship the Fire Dragon as an aspect of Nier[/*:m]
- Dark Triumvirate added the Fire Dragon aspect of Nier in order to gain the Ashen Hides as allies[/*:m]
- The Milandric addition of the Fire Dragon may or may not have an impact on Ashen Hide relations[/*:m]
Primarily, I do not see anything saying that the Ashen Hides worship the Dark Triumvirate version of Nier.
The only thing I see in the whole entry that might make them tough to fit into the campaign is that they view the Black Talons as implacable enemies.

They fled the Black Talons because they believe the Mother Matriarch has sold the clutch out to Kassegore. Virtually all ss’ressens are ignorant that the fire dragon is one facet of Kassegore. So, that Milandir has come to accept the Fire Dragon is somewhat irrelevant if you think its Kassegore in a Trojan horse. Of course awkwardly it is Kassegore in a Trojan Horse… If that secret comes out its an existential crisis for the the Black Talons and 100% a revisiting of the question if the Fire Dragon is allowed to be openly worshipped.
Even if some of the Ashen Hide wanted to head back south to “save” Milandir or their brethren, they are allied to Milndir’s implacable enemies. And Canceri I has turned inward under the resumed rulership of the uber lich Hegrish.
An Ashen Hide PC certainly seems possible to me but would be very rare. Such a PC in my mind would more or less be on equal footing with a Tultipetan Dwarf …. That is to say needing some kind of special cert.

The reason such a Reward Level was not added is that it would then preclude us from letting anyone play such a character, when and if Canceri is allowed in the campaign.
I don’t want to be in a position where we release an updated Canceri sourcebook and say, “You can play all this stuff EXCEPT for the Ashen Hide.”

I’m curious. Where are you getting that the ashen hide are firmly allied to Canceri? I’m not doubting you – I just don’t remember seeing anything.
