When I first tested this game out at origins, the judge told all of the players that one attack action can be made against several targets based off of one attack roll (Like an AOE melee attack with fists). He did not however, state the bonus to the targets avoidance in such a situation. Either it is an avoidance bonus to the target or a penalty to attack on the hero (not sure which). Is there a specific number or is this up to the judge to decide how difficult it is to hit numerous targets? Any help or information on the topic would be great.

January 11, 2014 at 3:35 pm #255089AnonymousInactiveThat I recall, normally you’d have to have a maneuver/ability/power that permits an AE attack.
Unless the judge was being generous at that moment to allow a melee AE attack or it was a special, one time, situation that permitted such move, normally one cannot perform a melee AE unless they have the maneuver.
Regarding the avoidance bonus, again this could have been due to that situation being a unique case (GMs are allowed to flare things up every so often). If I do find any references regarding AE and occasion as the one you posted, I’ll gladly cite the page.

That’s the beauty of both this game and Arcanis, it’s not always “inside the box”. Both players and GMs are encouraged to step outside the box. It definitely spices up the games and allows for situations such as the one above

Say a character manages to deal enough damage to a combatant with either a weapon or an power to kill them and then some, could the residual damage from killing the target transfer over to another enemy within range?

Here too it would be a “normally, no” situation. There are maneuvers (or will be?) that permit such events or a GM might allow it during very unique circumstances (for example rolling max on your attack roll causing not just an automatic critical hit, bit additional effect(s) as well). Do not be surprised if there will be an expanded combat maneuvers in the future (hopefully nothing too complicated to keep with the simplicity theme of Rotted Capes).
