Plot: The Prelate of Anshar has vanished en route to the Ansharan shrine in the Corlathian Mountains. The Heroes are among the searches, and can choose to start searching either from Enpebyn, or from the Shrine (if the latter, they are brought there by Ansharan Gate).
Additional Notes:
–Two Different encounters leading to the same final encounter
–One of the Ansharan’s party is a Mourner in Silence, with a personal grudge against the Prelate. He was assigned as an escort to filter information, but has decided to use the opportunity of the pilgrimage to deal with his own frustrations.
–Searching from Enpebyn, the searchers will find the corpses of the other party members, splayed out over time and distance. The Mourner was killing them slowly and brutally, without revealing himself to the rest of the group until the end. The Heroes catch up to him just as he is toying with the prelate.Potential suggestion:
–Motivation needs to be something extreme to elicit such a response, such as a half heard revelation of the secret of the val’Inares and what eventually happens to them. The captor could be a val’Inares and misunderstands what he overheard and presumes that the Prelate (who is a human) curses those that displease him. This (in his mind) explains what happened to several family members that disappeared.October 19, 2013 at 4:52 am #251532frootsnaxParticipantThe Ansharan faith has been described as lacking hierarchy … I don’t believe they have prelates. Just anointed priest and their pyrmen.
October 19, 2013 at 2:34 pm #251533AnonymousInactiveNescor val’Inares was the Archprelate of Anshar in the Year 6 adventure “Sacrefice” and “Venom of the Daugther”
October 20, 2013 at 2:32 am #251548frootsnaxParticipantI went back and looked. And of course you are right. They do indeed call Nescor the arch prelate. But I think Nescor was a special case and should have been described as a pyreman. Pg 170 of Codex of Heroes, along with earlier editions, states that formal clergy titles don’t exist in the temple of Anshar.
May 22, 2014 at 10:32 pm #262466AnonymousInactiveQuestion: Why would an Ansharan make a pilgrimage on foot instead of simply taking a Portal? I can see the whole “because travel is Anshar’s thing, and so is the pain you’ll sustain”, but so are the Portals and it makes as much sense for me that the Prelate would use the Holy Portals instead of huffing it.

The easy path is not always the path of the pious.
May 22, 2014 at 11:30 pm #262469AnonymousInactiveI’d actually be interested in this one, though I do have one question about what I can do about it: Can I use the Legion of Grim Lamentations in it? Basically, I’d like for the val’Inares murderer guy to possibly be in the early stages of his own transformation during the trip (possibly a reason to go after the Prelate who he views as the source of this). Ultimately, when the Heroes catch up to him, he will have begun displaying powers beyond that of the usual val’Inares which would make for a more. . . interesting fight. When they are defeated, I’d like a squad of Legion of Grim Lamentations (in full facemasks and such) to show up, and basically demand that the Heroes give them the body (or, if subdued, the still living guy). The Heroes can then either fight the Grim Lamentations to keep him, or give up without a fight.
The reasons for this is such:
1) It allows me to explore the val’Inares somewhat (which may be outside my ‘paygrade’)
2) It introduces the idea in story that the Legion of Grim Lamentations aren’t simply another ‘vanilla’ legion, and that they may have secrets. If I cannot use the LGL, I’m sure I can think of something else to do to flesh this out.
May 23, 2014 at 12:15 am #262471drafitParticipantHello Cody,
Nope – you can’t use the LGL in that manner.
Also, I’d rather not have you delve into the val’INares 2.0 version. After re-reading the premise, I don’t really see that as being necessary.
Sorry.
May 27, 2014 at 11:23 pm #262569AnonymousInactiveHey Cody,
Do you still want to claim this soft point plot for outline submission?
May 27, 2014 at 11:26 pm #262570AnonymousInactiveI stake a claim on it. I have quite a few in the queue right now so I have a bit of time to hammer out something awesome.
May 27, 2014 at 11:49 pm #262571AnonymousInactiveAwesome! Consider it yours!
June 25, 2014 at 5:35 pm #263470AnonymousInactiveSeems simplest to post this here:
Are there any pre-existing NPC’s that would appear in this story? Has PCI already come up with a list of Prelates, or am I free to make them up from whole cloth?

While not yet official, I have a Prelate of Illir in In Plain Sight.
If you need his details let me know
Cheers
