Since The Lying Universe (ta) is null in the errata, I thought I’d ask about the other powers as well.

    The Endless Moment (ta)
Has anyone found a good use for this power? The only trivial skill actions I found are Mettle (Perseverence), Acrobatics (Reduce Falling Damage), Deceit (Telling a Lie), Etiquette, Knowledge (Recall Facts), Larceny (Pick Pockets), Linguistics (Understand unfamiliar language), Mettle (Perseverence), Perception (Spot), Ride, Stealth (Hiding Small Objects).

Almost none of those are affected by a Clock where the speed of an action matters.

Being limited to a trivial skill action, the only effective use is for Mounted Combat, as controlling a Warhorse is a trivial skill action (+1 tick) to all of your actions. Which does make us better horsemen than a Yhing Hir!

You’re right Brendan (I’m a couple of years late on noticing this comment)

This Talent is of very little benefit as written. I wonder if there were more Trivial skill actions planned when the rules were written.

I want to endorse all that is val’Cessari but this Bloodline Talent is a bit uninspiring. And I’d love to see more connection between Bloodline Talents and Bloodrank.

But enough complaining, how could this be rewritten and improved to be in line with the balance of other Tier III Bloodline Talents?

Prior to errata, it was the most powerful thing in the game. Provided you succeed, you could use a Fate for every action, get a bonus to the roll, and never run out of Fate.

    Not this one Matt.

Brendan was talking about The Endless Moment here (in this thread), which lets you perform a Trivial Skill Action for no speed cost. The trouble is that there are very few of them and most happen out of combat, so not having a speed cost is not really a benefit. This one needs fixing too. Perhaps if the wording was Trivial Action rather than Trivial Skill Action.

The Lying Universe is the Bloodline Power that was very powerful as written originally (although it only applied to Break the Rules options) and now it has no valid purpose and needs to be redefined.

I’m happy if The Lying Universe is changed to be just average with respect to its power level. I’d just like it to have a purpose. I’m keen to take all of the val’Cessari bloodline powers and I think that a bunch of my val’Cessari cousins would like to too.

Well, that is what I get for scanning and responding quickly while spending time with wife. \":)\"
If someone makes a list of Trivial skill actions and Trivial actions that can be performed in combat, I will take a look and hash it out with Dev team.

Codex of Heroes has added a few combat options to the list since the original post. Many hit [Limited] or [Racial] hurdles.
Archers get the most benefit (Quick Shot), as do Divine Casters (Personal Remnant – not really a valid roleplay choice, though)

    Trivial Skill Actions (Skills)
    Acrobatics – Reduce Falling Damage
Deceit – Telling a Lie, Recall Lie
Etiquette – Know your Place, Heraldry and Nobility
    Knowledge – Recall Facts
    Larceny – Pick Pockets
    Linguistics – Understand Familiar Language
    Melee – Examine Martial Technique
    Mettle – Perseverance
    Perception – Spot
    Range – Examine Martial Technique
Ride – Ride, Drive Wagon/Chariot, Fast Mount,
    Stealth – Hiding Small Objects
    Wilderness Lore – Gathering

    Trivial Skill Actions (Talents)
    Acrobatic – Kick Up
    Blade upon the Wind (T.III)
    Blessed Vitality (T.III)
    Bonded Companion
    Elemental Strike
    Emotional Surge (T.I)
    One with the Shadows
    Perfect Emotions
    Personal Remnant
    Quick Hands
    Quick Shot
    Thorn of Saluwe (T.IV)

    Trivial Actions
    Quick Draw (I + II + III)
    Smite Infidel
    Dropping to Prone

There are some decent abilities on that list. But except for kip up and examine martial technique Tukufu doesn’t have many of them. =\. Still I can’t say it’s a dead level or a talent tax. Makes me wish I was a Divine Caster with Personal Remnant. That’d be awesome.

The fourth level power is even worse for me since I have the spell distant steps. Can’t really imagine a scenario where I’d ever need to make a roll with that spell so I think the bonus is mostly worthless. I wish the spells selected for that talent weren’t heritage spells. But again that’s for Tukufu’s build. If I didn’t have it then it’d be good. I guess I could maybe rebuild at Tier 4 if I get the chance, but really when I want to cast the spell Distant Steps I want to do it more than once….moving other party members around is great too.

Tiers 1, 2 and (eventually 5) have powers that range from good to wow for a Tukufu. I think we would all agree that Aweness of Self is pretty damn good. And Tier V is going to make Force of Emptyness amazing. While I don’t think our bloodline talents are overall as good as the Virdan, Vasik and Mehan talents, I think we have a much better package than the Abebi, Assante or Borda families.

Any further thoughts on “The Endless Moment”?

Or are we all going to be freely making Perception checks and Examine Martial Technique checks in combat with this?

Would Arcanum – Determine Spell be an acceptable use? It’s a Push 1 action. Does that count as Trivial?

What about a use of the Force of Will talent? It is speed +1. Maybe that is pushing it?

    Just wondering.

Activating a rune is a trivial action (if we take +1 to speed to mean trivial action)

Would be nice to see movement on this. But I’m not holding my breath. The campaign staff has limited bandwidth….

I think it would be more useful to just be able to do a trivial action. But the text says what it does. It’s only trivial skill options. ::sigh:: Push 1 reactions and untyped trivial actions do not currently fill in (though i’m Sure many judges would take a Fate point to do the impossible with this talent to Push 1 for free…)

Regarding the val’Cessari Bloodline powers, I have mentioned The Lying Universe, but The Endless Moment doesn’t provide much benefit either as written.

I don’t have my Tier III Bloodline powers yet, but I will soon and it would be good to find a re-wording of this power too to make it useful in some sense.

We’ve suggested some alternatives in this chat. It would be nice to have some Campaign staff assistance or ruling. I know it’s been a while.

see my reply in the other thread. I agree the power sucks for most builds as written. posts here are IMO unlikely to generate momentum to change.
