Looks like a good plan. The Kickstarter discussion spawned as part of the character death discussion. Didn’t mean for it to get so off track.

I understand your position, but let’s face it it’s REALLY hard to lose a character permanently in Arcanis, so I don’t think it’s a huge gamble.
Either way, thank you for your support of the company and our products!
Josh, I think this conversation is germane as these points will more than likely need to be referenced in the Campaign Guide. As for your list, the ones that I think will not be allowed in the game are:
Rules for Crafting Runes
Rules for PvP
I’m personally not a fan of crafting rules as it just adds to what a writer know has to add and keep in mind when writing an adventure, i.e. what plants/herbs can be found in the way to X.
Obviously I can see the appeal from the player POV and there will probably be something, but the two I listed above I doubt very seriously will ever come into play.
April 25, 2014 at 4:46 pm #261857AnonymousInactiveHenry I agree, the conversation about the kickstarter rewards is pertinent, I did not transition my thoughts very well.
well the answer for “rules for crafting runes” can simply be No, Runes (and the associated talents and paths) are not allowed in the living campaign, and that is an answer I respect.
PVP rules, please allow me to make an argument for including them in some fashion:
In a home game this, is not an issue, the Game master takes care of the problem, however in a living campaign there is ample opportunity for characters (and people) with opposing agendas to come into conflict, in particular when vying for the same object to fulfill differing objectives.
for example PC A is a member of the mourners, and PC B is a member of the orthodoxy and their missions are to kill and protect the same NPC (respectively), when the players are lying to each other and doing sneaky or overt things there needs to be something in place when PVP comes into play.
some scenarios that might be pertinent to cover, assuming that for one reason one PC wants to disable or kill another PC:
what happens if it comes up during a battle? PC A and PC B are fighting a group of nondescript enemies when the NPC of contention shows up (and starts fighting on either side)
what if it would start a fight that otherwise would not occur (like an elorri table playing elements of faith ?)
I think there is the idea of a social contract that needs to be maintained but not specifically forced on players. and in that I mean the rules should be crafted to reinforce an idea about playstyle. I personally think that unspoken rule should be “you should be able to trust your party members during combat, but if its a significant event things might fall out afterwards” AND “one player should not be making decisions for the entire party.

Thanks again! I agree and support your assertions and arguments for your ruling on land and businesses. I’ll leave it up to you if you think it should be answered in the public forums. As for the issue of PVP, I agree with josh that *something* needs to be said to allow for some method of resolving intraparty conflicts that may arise from two characters with mutually exclusive goals “I have to kill him!” And “I have to save him”. Some measure of doing stamina damage, incapacitating a fellow character, etc. could be allowed. Wounding, putting a character into danger from an external source (e.g. Enemy of my enemy to cause them to go engage the adversary devil solo) would all be disallowed.

I’m just swamped with day work (we started some jobs for the school board) as well as doing stuff for the cons (like maps for one of our published mods)
I think this will be on hold till after origins.. hell we can sit down and knock some stuff out at origins (may be a good chance to talk face to face)
