    Dear fellow scholars,

It has recently come to my attention that the funds supplying me with victuals and housing while I have experimented with meditating and contemplation at the Tree of Saluwe in the First City are becoming sadly reduced. In the clear logical state I am afforded there, I quickly realized I need to act to remedy this situation. As a nice distraction, I have heard of a pending expedition to a beautiful keep in the woods of Canceri. Since I hear this may be the one day of the year that Canceri may be pleasant, I am planning on joining this expedition. I have alerted the Order of Savants of my intentions, and am awaiting any further orders.

Have any of the rest of you heard of this expedition, and will any be attending? I am quite curious, since awhile back I did temporarily acquire a journal discussing an ancient Auxenite fortress, though I thought that was more towards Milandir. That journal was also associated with a powerful artifact and I turned the entire lot over to the society. Could this be the same fortress? Is the Circle of Prophets supporting this expedition?

Additionally, I recently came across indications that our communications may indeed have ramifications. Namely:

The Secret Society forums are live…. Second, while there may be unique roleplay opportunities and chances to gain Fame with your Society, so too may you find yourself gaining Infamy for various reasons (including sharing privileged information too freely with those not in the know).

Do you know if this is true? While I enjoy and appreciate our discussions, I have never seen anything more substantive come out of them then our organizing before a expedition, and personal information sharing. While I do not claim the worthiness, I do note that I have an eagerness, to advance beyond the novitiate rank in the organization. I can only accomplish that by proving my worth to the society, so any means to do so is appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Kavaris

    Kavaris,

I had been meaning to write back to you on this.

Loyalty to the organization is commendable. I am sure the actions you have taken on behalf of the Emerald Society have been noticed by people in power. Discovery is often its own reward, but if you seek political advancement within the organization you have my well wishes. It might help if people in power actually knew what you really looked like. Maybe they do and I just don’t know…

Personally all I want is the freedom to poke my nose into interesting places and the odd bit of logistical support. You can have my share of leadership positions too. But be careful. If you aren’t careful they’ll chain you to a desk next to Master Kelb, and you’ll be reading and copying maps all day as someone’s minion. Most leadership positions are thankless jobs. Just ask Master Kirnik after the fiasco in the Collection. I believe no one in the organization has actually spoken a full sentence to him in the last six months.

I’ve heard it said that the man Kelb replaced jumped off a tower just to feel the wind in his face one last time. Unless you are conspiracy minded, and softy whisper that someone threw him off. Since Kelb still enjoys the vitality of youth and has wings to boot I suspect he will continue to thrive. Please take care that you do as well.

As for Canceri, I have two understandings. One is that its never pleasant there. Just different levels of unpleasant. If you’re lucky its just a matter of “wow I’m cold and its muddy and I wish was home. I’m not complaining you…I just wish I was home.” In my experience it scales up quickly from there. The second understanding I have is that the expedition to the Auxunite ruins left some time ago but is overdue to report in. I believe we’re heading up that way just to make sure everything is okay.

I’m sure its not a big deal. I get lost in my work all the time. That’s certainly what I told my wife before slipping out of the First City.

Of course, just to be safe, I brought all my flintlocks…

…See you in the relief column soon,

    Tukufu

Oh Tukufu, I thought you knew me well enough that you would know I could never survive being chained to a desk. But on the other hand, I do so love learning. No, I am not saying I want to rise to the highest ranks of the society, only that I want to earn enough respect with the society that I can finally have access to it’s knowledge. There are so many interesting tidbits I’m sure the society has learned through the years, and so many interesting items it has recovered; that I can’t wait to get to learn (about) them. If I didn’t enjoy exploring so much, the wait to earn the society’s trust to access these things would be unbearable! Luckily, I’m doing what I love while I wait, but I really could use a chance to study interesting things outside of places where things will try to eat me as well as in them… It gives one something interesting to do while the bruises heal, and the nightmares fade…, and I have hopes of them finding just the right trinket to save the day in just the wrong situation…

Say, anyone know what happened to that horn recovered from that ancient dwarven citadel 60 or so years ago? Thought it might be useful in case of a dragon attack on the first city…

As for Canceri, I am well aware of the nastiness. Those flying hunting monsters that attacked my group the last time I was there with the insane bard still give me the willies. Well, at least they’re pretty much nocturnal…

No one I’ve talked to will admit to knowing what happened to the Horn of Tultipet. Some have said it broke in the blowing. But my best guess is that Elandre has it. It’s not impossible Loshnek could have snatched it at the end either.

Should have asked him when I had the chance.
