    Range: Is equal to the shortest Range and/or smallest Area going from Radius > Arc > Cone;

Thus an Advanced spell built from two spells having a Range: 15’ Cone and Range: 20’ (10’
radius) would be reduced to 15’ Cone,

while an Advanced spell built from two spells having a Range: 15’ Cone and Range: 10’ Arc would be reduced to 10’ Arc.

When spells which affect a static number are combined the number of targets is reduced to smallest value, but when targeted spells are applied combined with area spells the spell effects all targets within that area.

those two examples are problematic.. is there a better way to deal with combining ranges?
or should those examples just be corrected to 10′ cone, and 10′ cone

OR should we produce an exhaustive list of combinations based on areas?

I would recommend getting the example fixed in the errata. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a more exhaustive list for easy reference if someone has the time to put it together.

yeah but what would the fix be?

Based upon everything I know and have read here, that first example isn’t possible. You can’t combine a Range (Radius) with a Radius spell. A better example would be a spell with Range: 30′ (20′ Radius) combined with a Range: 60′ (10′ Radius) gives a 30′ (10′ Radius). The second one as you pointed out is wrong and should be 10′ Cone (smaller than Arc).

Based on the templates at the back of the book:

    5 Arc = 3 squares
    5 radius = 4 squares
    15 foot cone = 7 squares
    10 Arc = 8 squares
5 radius centered on caster = 8 squares
    10 Radius = 10 squares
    25 foot cone = 17 squares
10 Radius centered on caster = 20 squares

That’s my proposal you base it on the functional area of effect based on counting the number of squares the template affects

There is a rather large clarification to the spell combining rules in the current Errata/FAQ doc
