    Greetings,

I’m hoping to get some help with questions around the Sarishan Sorcerer Priest. The current character build we dusted off hasn’t been touched in 2+ years and has us curious. I’ve looked through the errata and the list of topics in this board and didn’t find the answers. My apologies if these questions have already been answered.

    1. What Unique spell(s) does the Sarishan Sorcerer Priest get? They have the Blood Tradition and get Sarishan Oath. Do they get either Arcane Shield or Rebuke? I would hazard not, but it’s not clear either in the Archetype definitions as they specifically grant those spells or in the Magic section.

    2. If the Divine Archetype is used for a Sarishan Sorcerer Priest, can they use the “Any 2 Devout Talents” option to get ASC: Sorcerer Priest of Sarish? On the one hand I’d say no, it’s ASC not DSC and yet they’re the exception and DSC is explicitly replaced in the Archetype and called out by name in the option.

    Thanks!

With a sweep of his hat,

    Paul

    1) I recall the previous ruling was “Sarishan Oath, and your choice of one of the other two”
    2) That is a good question. . . Technically no, but as you say it is a gray area.

page 186 under ASC sorcerer-priest of sarish:

Benefit:You learn the Unique Spell Sarishan Oath, and
either Rebuke or Arcane Shield (choose one). You also gain
the ability to cast spells from the Blood, Creation, Elemental,
    Illusion, and Wards Traditions.

I would assume you can get ASC (SP) through your devout talents. You are a devout follower of Sarish and ASC (SP) gets substituted for DSC in other places.

It would almost have to, since otherwise you’re very hard pressed to increase your level/tier of Arcane Spell Casting. And as you said, Sarishian Sorcerer-Priests substitute one for the other everywhere else.

yall think i need to add this into the clarification doc? I dont think anyone disagrees with the fact that you get ASC as a divine talent in this specific case

I do. Screw Sarishians. I’m just kidding. Seems like intent.

I would say no to a player who wanted to use the advancement Gain two Devout Talents to pick Arcane Spell Casting for 2 reasons.

    1) You don’t need to take Arcane Spell Casting using it. Because you can take it using the Choose any two Talents: you must meet the requirements for both Talents before you utilize this advancement option advancement.

    2) Pg 170 of A:RG states “You may learn Devout Talents if you possess either the Arcane Spell Casting: Sorcerer Priest of Sarish Talent or any of the Divine Spell Casting Talents. You may learn Arcanum Talents once you have acquired the Arcane Spell Casting Talent.”

While SPoS can learn both Devout and Arcanum, I would assume if you want the Divine Archetype you wish to take more Devout Talents, and if you take the Arcane Archetype you want more Arcanum Talents.
