It says in the Elemental Aura spell that val’Virdan and Nierites can only use the Fire Version of this spell, which I always believed to reflect the fact that the Deity version of this spell is (Fire Only) and the val’Virdan Heritage spell is (Fire Only). But what happens if a val’Virdan Nierite Priest takes this spell at Tier III as a Wards spell? Are they still restricted?

Why are val’Ossan, val’Dellenov, or val’Tensen not similarly restricted?
Oversight. They should have the same restrictions.
