Hi all
Just been doing some thinking and a question popped into my mind.
I believe that it has been stated that a divine caster casts spells using a set of defined cants that have been handed down as part of the religion and that the spells themselves do not tap into the divine to power them and thus cannot be used as evidence that the gods still exist.
If that is true, then it follows on that (and this is assuming that it is the same for Elorii) the cants for Beroe, Kelos, etc would still function and that priests of those gods would still be able to heal etc.
But they can’t.
Why would that be?
Anyone have any thoughts or wild speculations?February 26, 2018 at 6:06 am #276077AnonymousInactiveExample stories are also given that when certain Gods (e.g., the Old Ssethric Deities) disappeared, so did their priests’ spells. I infer that when the Gods of Men went away, they empowered their Valinor to provide magic to their worshippers (or some similar mechanism).

With the destruction of the other four Lords, only Belisarda remains to shepherd the elorii race, teaching it the difficult lessons of patience and forgiveness. Priests still maintain the sacred fires in the temples to Keleos, the cool pools of the temples to Beröe as well as the other two, but those gods remain silent and grant neither gift nor counsel. It is Belisarda who allows these priests to channel divine power to power their rituals.
It could be that Belisarda’s cants have been taught to the priests of the other 4 elemental gods … or it could be that most of their Cants are empowered by Belisarda (Belisarda obviously can’t empower the Deity Domain spells of another God but theoretically ought to be able to facilitate shared Benedictions, Corpus & Wards from their combined Pantheon).Just a guess. Its an interesting question.
