Technique: Disarm Foe
This Maneuver improves on the simple “Disarm” maneuver, but by being an Advanced Maneuver, it’s usefulness is very limited considering other effects characters can impose.
Disarm is already a very difficult thing to do: You suffer a -6 to the attack roll, even if you’re trained in this type of attack. You do no damage and it has a large speed/recovery cost.
The Technique has a net effect of reducing speed by 1 and eliminating the Free Strike. However, it’s Advanced which means it can’t be combined with other techniques, such as Long Strike or the like. While I understand that there’s potential for combining this with multi-attack maneuvers if it were Base, it makes for a cinematic and useful ability. A lot of ‘creatures’ are immune to this anyways, and you can easily pick up a weapon for a Speed 2 action.
– Proposed Change: Add: Special: This maneuver becomes a Base maneuver once you reach +9 with any combat skill.
This keeps the effects in check at low Tiers but for those specializing in this, it allows combinations at Tier 3 and above.
