I am sure this has been covered somewhere before, but I am not finding it. Can you dual cast Divine/Psioic? Meaning can you have access to both Divine and Psionic Spells?

The spell casting miscibility rules as they stand:

    1) Psionics plays nice with everything else.
    2) Nothing else plays nice with anything else.

+1 for the subtle AD&D reference.

Been awhile since I read posts here, but yes anything mixes with psionics.

I answered a question for my friend wondering about dual casting divine and psionics, and I further explained to him that with divine casting and psionics (vals only and specific others so far), your psionic powers are based on val bloodline while your divine casting is based on deity worship. Vals are not exclusively required to worship their bloodline deity. With a decent back story, you can explain why your val’Sheem worships Neroth.

    Attack: Backstory
    Category: Advanced
Range: 0′, 10′ Radius (Within earshot)
Speed: 5 (+0) (as long as it takes to state)
    Duration: Scene
    Defense: Discipline
Effect: Stunned. Individuals hearing the tale may become disoriented or confused attempting to reconcile extreme differences in expectations.

Adaptation: By increasing the volume at which the tale is told, the radius may be increased by 10′. This adaptation may be applied multiple times to the limit of the user’s voice.

That’s a very good point. In my general experience, when you design a character you get to make a major break to a trope or stereotype *ONCE* otherwise you risk being regarded as a bag of numbers and justifications.

Also for the record, there’s nothing wrong with a val’Sheem worshiping Neroth at all. Who you worship and pray to has little if anything to do with your particular lineage.

It’s when you try and explain why your val’Sheem has val’Mordane powers because your mother was a val’Sheem but your father was a val’Mordane, and despite it being a direct contravention of accepted social norms you were raised by the val’Sheem side of the family, yet still somehow managed to undergo the psionic training from the val’Mordane family with their mentagi etc etc…. that we start raising our eyebrows.

I have a question about that. If dad is a val’Holryn and mom a val’Ishi anything is possible, given the wild card that is the val’Holryn bloodline. If a daughter was born and found to have the val’Emman bloodline where would she go to be raised? OR could she simply keep the val’Holryn name since that is what she looks like?

This is a little bit aside and I could be mistaken here, but I thought it was said at one point that bloodline powers don’t manifest until puberty. If this is the case, how do mixed lineage families decide where a child is trained?

Partially, at least, due to physical appearance. Red hair? Virdans or Emmans. Epicanthic folds? Send them to the Ishi. Overriding self-righteousness? Must be a Tensen.

For the val’Sheem worshipping Neroth, I have a very appropriate back story for him, but the player keeps getting verbally confused on the situation.

First of all, bakground was Undisciplined Psion. The val’Sheem was born in the Pirate Isles after a val’Sheem with significant pride made a business trip to the area. After birth and notice of grey eyes, the val’Sheem refused to believe the val child was his daughter, risking embarrassment while holding onto old ways. A val’Mordane family living in the Pirate Isles that knows the mother instead accepts to adopt the child until her bloodline is absolutely determined, permitting influence of Neroth’s worship. After discovery and proof, the val’Sheem father is embarrassed socially of the proof when confronted by it, citing that the meeting between the daughter and father caused her to spontaneously awaken, which was very emotional. In the aftermath, the val’Sheem daughter is instead trained by val’Sheems far closer to the Pirate Isles, which she calls home with her val’Mordane family.
