So, I’ve been thinking about the Reavers, and it is my understanding that they do take disaffected dwarves from other enclaves as recruits. But how do those dwarves survive away from their enclave? Can dwarves use each other’s heartstones to survive? Essentially switching enclaves? The Reavers would seem to indicate yes, the Toltipetan, no.
April 22, 2015 at 1:22 pm #267457AnonymousInactiveNope, they must bathe in the light of their own heartstone. Otherwise the Deneki would have been less willing to march en masse to Ymandragore.
April 22, 2015 at 4:27 pm #267459AnonymousInactiveThat’s what I thought, but doesn’t that mean becoming a reaver should be a death sentence for a dwarf from any other enclave? I remember there being a soloni dwarf reaver. I assume this is a case of, “we don’t know something important.”
Seems like it might be helpful for both the Deneki and the Tultipetans to find out how the foreign reavers get around this weakness.

Fair enough, but it makes the foreign converts a very time-limited resource, since they would all know they are committing suicide. And I thought converts were a major source of replenishment for them, since we aren’t really sure how they reproduce, since they stay in their armor forever.
April 22, 2015 at 5:17 pm #267462AnonymousInactiveAlas, we really don’t know much about the Reavers. They don’t last long enough outside their armor to really question, and they aren’t bringing in tourists. They’d probably use ‘converts’ more as spies and ‘harvesters’ than as line troops, with the soldiers coming from Bealak Gempor.
That, however, does bring up an interesting question: What happens with Dwarves of different enclaves breed? Can they? Do we have any example?
Something to post on my questions thread for Henry to cackle at
April 22, 2015 at 11:02 pm #267469AnonymousInactiveIt has been stated (in one of the sourcebooks, I’m sure), that Reavers are allowed by the Enclaves, to visit and bathe in the light of the heartstone.
There’s all sorts of safety procedures, but dwarves are not heartless. Thus, the Reavers can still live a long life, even away from their original enclave.
That’s one reason the theft of the heartstone by Ymandragore was so devastating; “Serve us or die” is very effective when you *know* how long you have to reach the island.
