I’m one of those people who used to but no longer view Arcanis as a ‘event I need to play at a con’ event anymore. The investment for me to focus my con experience to Arcanis is simply not there anymore. I’ve never been to Arcanicon and I probably never will. I have played Arcanis at every Origins, but have skipped out on a special event here and there. I did play this past BI.

So Jay is one of the people that has been playing forever (from my perspective) and I think this kind of stance is becoming more and more common with the player base, people are getting frustrated.

So is this the forum to talk about this, is this being talked about elsewhere?

It is an interesting question, Josh…and one central to our role as Harvesters. It might be a good idea if we discuss what has and hasn’t worked to help both keep old players and bring in new ones. What tactics have people tried?

I’ll work up a longer reply later, but in my opinion, what I have seen and heard from local players is a lack of new material coming out.

You can see/feel the excitement when other games have new books coming out at a regular rate. People are jazzed about the new world information, rules crunch, and character options. It’s been over a year or more since Codex of Heroes came out. I understand PCI is a small company with 4 product lines, but new material is really what helps attract, re-attract, and keep players excited about the game. This isn’t to say they won’t keep playing, but it becomes, as Jay said, not something ‘required’ to play at Cons.

I honestly think the LARP also helped draw in people, but I also understand the reasons for that and am not looking to rehash those here.

    John
