    I have been running some games in the past where the players are missing a healer and the group is small.
    The character I use is the:” I will follow your lead Master” who is deeply concerned that if the party is defeated she won’t have anyone to protect her from being returned back to Coryani to be a slave again.

    I am using the Judge certificate, but if the group is wiped out, she will start back at 1.1 again.

    Any rules saying I can ‘t do this.

    Well its one of those unstated things is that you cant play and jusge at the same time… however, i dont see any problem with running an NPC if the group is too small

    No problems here as presented.

    IMO the real reason Judges shouldn’t run a player concurrently is because its the job of the players to shine in the face of adversity. Its the job of the judge to calibrate the adversity. Running an player and shining while also judging steals some of the “glory” … or “anti-glory” \":P\" that belongs to the players alone.

    Back before VCP’s where GM’s really got shafted, I saw absolutely no issue with it. Now, I would only think about bringing my PC along as support if the table get shorted (ie: someone doesn’t show up, and a hole needs to be filled). I’d be more willing to give one of my players my Character sheet than play it myself, though.

    If you are running a character (it being the stuff written on your character sheet doesn’t matter), as long as you are still getting a volunteer/judge cert you are fine. If the idea is you are adding a character to the player’s party because of size I see no issue. You are also fine in the case of a TPK and don’t lose your character.
