The different sects include: The Mother Church of Coryan, the Milandric Church, the Church of the Dark Triumvirate, the worship of the Elemental Lords (such as that practiced by the Elorii and some human races in the Western Lands), any heretical cults that worship Infernals, the Khitani Church, Ssethric worshippers, the adherents of the Song of Pyrric, etc.
From Righteous Edict p 419 ARPG
If I recall correctly, there was some discussion about what this means for everybody.
A You don’t have to be in a sect, but thats not a good thing. that means your not in a any ones sect for beneficial spells, and your affected by all of the spells that affect people not in the casters sect (blessed pledge and channeling comes to mind)
B Ghost scales start as “no sect” because Herka is a magic rock, not a deity
C I REALLY wanted to make this post to have a “Sect C” comment
December 26, 2013 at 8:19 pm #254120AnonymousInactiveThis is unfortunately a spot where the story out ways the role-playing. A is true, you don’t have to be in a sect, but unless you are an atheist, you have a sect. Even if that sect is just your little village and the odd way you worship Yarris. I’d say the Yhing Hir have their own sect. They obvious worship spirits, but they still worship and believe in the gods.
B is wrong. The Ghost Scales belong to the Herka sect. The fact that they worship a magical rock has not barring on the fact that they are indeed in a religion in and of themselves. I don’t think these spells are checking for divine protect, I think they are checking your faith verse your targets.
December 26, 2013 at 8:41 pm #254123AnonymousInactiveI dont disagree with you Devin, but the Herkka sect isn’t allowed to have any divine casters, so they may as well be “no sect” and I didn’t say that very well in my first post

Love the pun in the title. To go with that pun I would have to add that without a sect those poor ghost scales are pretty hard up.

Okay, as I’ve said in other places the Ghost Scales are pretty screwy on a lot of levels.
Here is a Sect related question for you. Can a Ghost Scale take the Sword Sage path? On the surface the answer would seem to be yes since nowhere is it said that they can’t … and even though Herka is a (very special) rock there *IS* a religion built up around it.
On the other hand Sword Sage gives access to devote talents, which would include the talent smite infidel. Now you would be smiting everyone who isn’t in your rock worshiping sect.
December 27, 2013 at 1:59 am #254151AnonymousInactiveDon’t have the book handy, but don’t they include Infernal Cults? If an Infernal Lord is a ‘sect’, so why can’t the pretty, magical heat-producing rock be a sect? It isn’t a god, so they aren’t priests and can’t have devout talents, but they could be powerful enough for Shamans to exist.

an interesting corralary question, what religon are the Val’Sosi ssressen?
December 27, 2013 at 3:10 am #254157frootsnaxParticipant…snip… an interesting corollary question, what religion are the Val’Sosi ssressen?
Unless they’re really into living on the edge I would assume they worship the Fire Dragon like all the other black talons…that’s the normal and safe choice…though nothing would stop a player from choosing to be a heretic or a Mourner.
Or do you mean the former val’Sosi PCs? I imagine any Milandesian ones joined the MOC. If not then they probably moved to Coryan…
December 27, 2013 at 3:11 am #254158AnonymousInactiveI am just guessing here, but since Ven actually was resurrected by the Fire Dargon. I would say Fire Dragon.
December 27, 2013 at 3:31 am #254159AnonymousInactivei mean the ssressen, not the old PCs, Fire dragon is an obvious choice yes, but i see a very distinct possibility that they could also follow Beltine

Why? Obviously a player can make their own choices (and maybe live with consequences) but why would an NPC choose that? From hatchlings they’ve been brought up in a religious matriarchy (theocracy) that worships the Fire Dragon as their tribes “personal” savior. They only exist because of the Fire Dragon bailing them out of the mire of Ssethregore.
It’s true that the Serenity of Beltine gave their Dad powers (and incidentally they are the only kids in the Black Talons who can identify their Dad) but in order to earn the right to breed he had to go through a ritual where he embraced the Fire Dragon and repudiated the Pantheon of Man. Again the only reason they were born is because of their dad affirming his faith and taking the mantel of the Pyros Morela.
Yes you could rebel against all that…but it’s like an elorii turning his or her back on Belisarda and elonbe.
December 27, 2013 at 1:57 pm #254171AnonymousInactiveoh see maybe we need more about Venn Val’Sosi then cause i sure didn’t remember / know that
December 27, 2013 at 5:22 pm #254181AnonymousInactiveone of my players schooled me and sent me the bit from the ssethregore book, my bad i totally forgotten that was in there
