I have sent out a few PMs to get email info. With the changes to the Fate use of “Doing the Impossible” (i.e. it no longer exists), it creates a bit of a problem given that we have a T2 Bloodline power that is based on that option. So, I am going to send out a mass email to discuss it with all of us, henry, and Pedro. I would do it on the boards, but I know of at least 3 Cessari players who do not frequent them.
Thanks,
MattMarch 19, 2014 at 6:52 pm #260099AnonymousInactiveThat works for me. Worse comes to worse, I know that Tony should have everyones emails that registered on the forums.
April 21, 2014 at 11:14 am #261779frootsnaxParticipantI have continued to putter around with replacement ideas now and again for the Lying Universe. Looking for an idea that matches the flavor text. Think I found one…would have attached it to the group email Matt thoughtfully put together but I seem to have deleted it somewhere along the way.
If people like it (or have a different good idea) we can pass it along to Henry at some point. I think we should try to come up with a solution through consensus as “the val’Cessari.” I have a fear that if we leave it on a back burner it will be multiple years till Henry eventually thinks about it. And I have a small stake in the outcome since I’d like to take a Tier II bloodline power soon (and don’t really like the Power of Perception …)
Anyway this is my thought:
The Lying Universe [Racial]
The very essence of mystery is deceit. Without obfuscation, everything would be evident. The Children of Mystery understand this like few others. There is no such thing as the impossible.
Requirement: val’Cessari, Tier II
Benefit: Once per day you may cast the Illusory Object spell (pg. 398) as if you possessed the appropriate Arcanum skill with ranks equal to twice your Bloodline power. If you already possess the ability to cast Illusory Object as a spell, you instead increase your Passive Arcanum value by +2 for the purposes of making your illusion harder to disbelieve or unravel.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Cessari, obtaining this talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.From a flavor perspective I think Illusory Object is the best spell to match “mystery and deceit” and keeping things from being “evident.” Mechanically it is a Tier II spell which matches up well with a Tier II talent. Finally the wording is more or less taken from the Tier II val’Mehan talent “Our Master Bids You Obey.”
Thoughts?

September 13, 2014 at 4:05 am #264847frootsnaxParticipantDoes Pedro read this list?
I’ve sat on this since I haven’t heard much response … but mechanically Tukufu is getting closer to the point where he’ll take “Any 2 talents” (and his Tier 2 Bloodline Talent). Does anyone object to turning it in to Pedro or Henry as an idea?
September 13, 2014 at 3:55 pm #264859AnonymousInactivePedro does not have access to this list, actually. They’re secret from everyone who isn’t part of the society, other than Henry and myself (and I don’t think Henry reads them).
I’m not entirely sold on the idea myself; it seems a bit of a letdown relative to the old mechanic for you guys. I’ll ponder it and see if I can’t come up with another suggestion over the next week or two…
March 25, 2015 at 1:29 am #266656AnonymousInactiveHad a thought on this today; delete three words.
The Lying Universe [Racial]
Requirement: val’Cessari, Tier II
Benefit: When spending a Fate Point to break the rules – you gain a bonus equal to your Passive Insight to any Action Rolls involved in that effort. If you succeed, you gain the benefit of the Fate Point without spending it.Change to:
The Lying Universe [Racial]
Requirement: val’Cessari, Tier II
Benefit: When spending a Fate Point – you gain a bonus equal to your Passive Insight to any Action Rolls involved in that effort. If you succeed in the Action Roll, you gain the benefit of the Fate Point without spending it.Risk/Reward as you have to use it before rolling.
March 26, 2015 at 11:24 am #266695frootsnaxParticipantHow often can you do this? 1/scene is too powerful. 1/day might work but doesn’t entirely excite me. It’d be good for Tukufu (and psions in general) but what if your passive Insight is only a 2? Then it wouldn’t be so hot. Especially if you had some other static bonus from another feat (like Wolf Pack Tactics for an attack roll).
Still I would probably take this (and be grateful for a stronger Tier 2 offering). Tukufu’s Insight is 8….
March 26, 2015 at 1:00 pm #266697AnonymousInactiveSince val’sheem get an entire fate point each day (at no risk, at tier 1), 1/scene sounds right.
April 6, 2015 at 1:17 pm #267108AnonymousInactiveCampaign Guide appears to have brought back “Break the Rules” as an options, so this looks redundant.
April 6, 2015 at 1:46 pm #267109AnonymousInactiveif it did, that is a mistake.i will check asap.

• The ability of Fate to break the rules/do the impossible is limited to once per module, and still remains at the discretion of the Chronicler whether the specific instance can be done. If they Chronicler rules that it is not possible, the Fate Point is simply not spent and the Hero can select another action instead. Similarly, the ability of Fate to avoid certain death is limited to once per module (when not otherwise prohibited by Your Fate is Sealed).
Also, the document is a Word doc, not a PDF.

What is happening with ‘The Lying Universe’?
February 4, 2017 at 11:34 pm #274564AnonymousInactiveSilence is Golden, but not in Arcanis.
My thought on The Lying Universe was that with the upcoming 3.1 Cert, this Bloodline Talent will quite likely be relevant to every val’Cessari.
I like the idea of keeping the association with some form of the use of Fate. Break the Rules is gone, so perhaps a limited form of the original wording relating the Skill Action Rolls. Once per scene?
February 6, 2017 at 5:31 am #274569AnonymousInactiveOk, so only Eric and Brendan came up with alternatives to this Bloodline Talent, so I though that I would suggest some too.
For the record, I like Eric’s idea although it is quite different from the original benefit of the Lying universe. I’m not sure if access to an Illusion Binding spell is right though. I did notice Manipulate the Senses (which is a Control (Elder) Tier II spell) is a Scene based spell that fools the senses. Just thinking out loud there.
My suggestions are all variations on the original Fate related concept. I also tried to weave Bloodrank into it so as to help make Bloodrank more relevant. I think that most Bloodline talents should involve Bloodrank.
Option 1)
The Lying Universe [Racial]
Requirement: val’Cessari, Tier II
Benefit: When spending a Fate Point to reroll an Action Roll you gain a bonus equal to your Bloodrank to the Action Roll involved in that effort. If you succeed, you gain the benefit of the Fate Point without spending it. You may attempt this once per Scene.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Cessari, obtaining this Talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.Option 2)
The Lying Universe [Racial]
Requirement: val’Cessari, Tier II
Benefit: When spending a Fate Point to reroll an Action Roll you gain a bonus equal to your Bloodrank to the Action Roll involved in that effort.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Cessari, obtaining this Talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.Option 3)
The Lying Universe [Racial]
Requirement: val’Cessari, Tier II
Benefit: When spending a Fate Point on a use where you add your Fate score to improve the outcome, you can also add your Bloodrank. You may attempt this once per Scene.
Bloodrank: If you are a val’Cessari, obtaining this Talent increases your racial Bloodrank by 1.If you think they are stupid or hate them, just say so. I have a thick skin and would like to get this sorted out.
