After recent events in the first city, I have found myself really questioning the Emerald Society representation there. At a recent party I’m sure many of us attended with the person in question, it seemed he was much more interested in elevating himself in society, than in forwarding the Emerald Society. Additionally, he made it known that he was in charge of assessing a certain box that recently came into our possession, and that he was willing to “assess” it as too dangerous to study, and transfer its ownership to someone else – for the right price. Considering its potential value, that is a staggering idea. I’m not saying that there might not be items too dangerous to study, or that it might not have a better owner than the Emerald Society, but the idea that this one man alone, without consulting higher council could make this decision, and that he did not seem to have the Emerald Society’s interests at heart, truly concerns me.

Then, there was that debacle with the Jade Sarcophagus. Who’s idea was that (I assume his)? From moment one that I heard that an unknown item was being opened for the first time surrounded by dignitaries at a frickin’ party I knew that violates all kinds of protocols and was blatantly unsafe. And now the wife of the Tomal Khan is dead. I’m sure that won’t impact our business in the First City! What a disaster! The Emerald Society in the First City needs new leadership! And ideally more than just one individual.

I suggest the current representative be immediately stripped of his position and authority. Send him to a nice dig site in the Hinterlands. Let the inestimable Ambassador Tukufu oversee operations when he is in town, until a new lead can be brought to manage the position. He’s local, has ties with the aristocracy of the region, and has considerably more common sense than the current representative. If immediate dismissal isn’t practical than leave him in his position, but put Tukufu in an immediate oversight role with authority to approve/disapprove actions. And most of all – remove the current man carefully – with full security on him and the collection, and a review of the collection afterward. I don’t trust him to not abscond with valuable items if he feels he is about to be removed.

    Sincerely,

    Kavaris

Heavy is the head that wears the crown! Truly, I have little desire to assume the duties of the Emerald Society’s Seneschal of the First City. I would only even dream of taking such a task on if there were no other applicants who were even remotely qualified. Those kinds of jobs tend to invite assassins and are slow to receive the thanks of others. Perhaps if it is really necessary Kelb or Vincent or even you Kavaris might be persuaded to step forward.

    If that is necessary.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I do not begrudge Master Kirnik even a little for his actions during the Golden Court. Self promotion is a time honored tradition among politicians of all stripes. And frankly I’d be happy if the Jade Box disappeared down a dark hole. Objects that shed no light on ancient history but just upset geopolitical balances make me itchy. He did managed to secure aid for the society from the elorii of Seremas. I respect that. By contrast General ul’Shi Dao spent the night accomplishing nothing.

As one of the hypnotized victims I do agree that the incident with the Jade Sarcophagus has been an unmitigated disaster! With costs not yet fully reckoned. If Master Kirnik was deeply involved in the execution of its display then that is a black mark against his leadership. However it is not clear to me how involved he was. An investigation MUST be conducted! I see three possibilities. One: a shocking lapse in protocols has been brought on by gross negligence. Two: we are the victims of malice and have been set up by an outside agency. Three: Iahlokoh subverted the archaeologists with mind control. As a reasonably powerful psion in my own right I can personally attest to Ssanu’s overwhelming power.

Options one and two require censure or retaliation. Option three requires a review of protocols but may simply need to be written off as “stuff happens.”

I would be happy to provide any aid in these endeavors that is asked of me.

    Your in Haste,

Tukufu, Ambassador of Altheria & proprietor of Litera Scripta Manet.
