As written, the Bloodline ability merely grants you the Smite Infidel talent with no real advantage over the base form of the talent (and not removing the limitations and requirements thereof) beyond granting an additional usage if you already have the talent.
In the 3.5 rules, it was ruled (at least where I was playing) that the Smite ability of the val’Virdan/val’Emman became “Smite Everyone-who-is-not-me” instead of Smite Infidel. Is it unreasonable to make a similar ruling in regards to None Shall Stand Who Oppose the Gods (ta)? After all, having a Smite Infidel on a Mourner Character seems odd to me.

As for the change, I think because we’re trying to avoid errata, we can live without this one.

The inability to use it on some foes is its only drawback. None Shall Stand Who Oppose the Gods doesn’t need to be any different.

As an aside I’m not sure how a Mourner should get access to this talent.
It’s a Devout Talent so nominally you would need to be a Divine Caster which presents obvious problems. I guess you potentially could be a “rationalist” who still honors the memory and examples of the Gods even as you curse the the corrupted power grabbing of the modern churches. Such a figure I guess could become a Sword Saint and gain access that way.
Or you could be a val’Virdan Mourner with “None Shall Stand Who Oppose the Gods.” I appreciate the irony in that case, though I don’t think that’s great for your character’s life expectancy once your cousins learn of your philosophical leanings …

So a val’Virdan Mourner with None Shall Stand Who Oppose the Gods isn’t out of the question. Not all val’Mordanes want to be come lichs, but if that is where their blood takes them then what choice do they have.

Generally speaking VAL talents are racial and not devout. my mourner comment is just a side thought.
December 1, 2013 at 5:19 am #252660AnonymousInactiveThat’s what I’m saying. A val power that grants smite infidel, the target would come from that val’s mind. So if that val has a religion, then his smites would target those not of it. A mourner or atheist val would smite those with religion. Make sense?
