Hello everyone,
I wanted to wait until I knew one way or the other as to whether we’d do a LARP at Origins this year before making an announcement. Unfortunately, for the reasons I’ll explain below, there won’t be a LARP at Origins this summer.
There are a couple of reasons for this:
1. Given the arc of the story, I really didn’t see a way to put in a LARP that was meaningful to the story.
2. Of greater weight is that a company has licensed Witch Hunter to publish LARP rules and they are planning to run a LARP or two at Origins. I need to be at the LARP to see how the game runs, etc. because they would like to license Arcanis as well. This would make the rules more concrete and allow more diversity in what goes on in the LARP.
As these are scheduled on Friday night and I can’t be in two places at the same time, something’s got to give. Obviously, I have a vested interest in seeing how they run things for both the sake of Witch Hunter and the possible future impact on Arcanis.
So what will we have at Origins?
Three Hard Points (HP 6-8) and a Battle Interactive. I’m trying to see if there’s a way to include a LARP element to the BI, but I’m not positive I can make that work and make sense.
FYI – HPs 1-4 have been released and HP 5 is premiering at ArcaniCon.

Now I’m totally going to have to work on my WH character

Come on, John! Everyone knows that you are playing a variant of a fur trapper, but instead of trapping muskrat, otter, etc. and wearing/selling the furs, you are a chicken thief that look something akin to the San Diego Chicken. No need for your obfuscation.
(And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when I get too sleep deprived)
February 14, 2014 at 12:14 am #256761AnonymousInactiveYes that is indeed it!
February 14, 2014 at 3:58 am #256775AnonymousInactiveNow I am really going to hate it if I have to miss Origins this year, or even if I have to miss Friday at Origins this year. A Witch Hunter LARP is definitely not to be missed, especially since I already created my character.

Perhaps it will lead to good news for PCI. I wish well all those players who are also Witchhunters.

Bitter news? A bit of an exaggeration, wouldn’t you say?
I would rank that canceling of the campaign or the discontinuation of the game Bitter news, but IMO I don’t thiink this ranks that high.
February 14, 2014 at 2:46 pm #256819AnonymousInactiveWe could just hold a no stakes arcanis event , where we renact the scenes in the tavern after the crusade ( Eat drink and be merry)
wait, thats big bar on two, every night after the last slot finishes
February 14, 2014 at 2:47 pm #256821AnonymousInactivePersonally, I am fine with no LARP. Especially if it helps PCI develop some other business options for Arcanis and any other product line they have.
I also support the idea that any kind of ‘special’ event should be used as applicable, not just for the sake of having one.
PCI’s decision tells me these HPs are going to put the Arcanis characters somewhere that doesn’t allow for relaxed conversation and dealings. What are your thoughts: deep down in the purple-hued earth? lost somewhere in an other-wordly fortress? on some field of battle facing hordes of Khatani forces? stuck in a room forced to listen to a ponderous religious debate between Dilbert and Haakon?

Disappointing news then. …I would never want to exaggerate.

I know my opinion is not the same as most players but I have always preferred the LARPs to the BIs. And I think that there are some issues in the LA campaign (like the State of the Milandesian Church post Sabinius, w/ questions on what the integration of the Fire Dragon really means) that would lend themselves well to the LARP format… and are needed regardless of how tightly they tie in to any specific modules. So yes a disappointment that there is no LARP and/or other similiar kind of special event PCI might be experimenting with.
But I am still looking forward to what Arcanis goodness is being offered. And of course hope the Witch Hunter LARP goes well and leads to good things for PCI.
