Do you have enough judges now James? I tried to contact two possible judges last night but could only get their voice mails.

A BIG thanks to everyone who stepped up and volunteered their time so that their fellow players could play.

We know and understand this is a sacrifice. It’s greatly appreciated!

I have a technical question concerning the BI. In the past there were pages of stat blocks and all that requiring a lot of prep time to master. I recall many times skipping the Larp on Friday nights to get ready for Saturday. Is this still the case under the current system. I ask because this year I’m thinking about going to the Larp and working on a costume. If I’m going to need Friday night to prep I won’t go to the Larp and save my money on the costume. So I’m wondering about this.

I should have added that assumes I will be judging. Sorry for not making that clear. \":(\"

I don’t need to slot zero since I’m fine with getting ep and gold, although the items would be nice. My main concern is not having to run cold at Origins. Any chance we might see the mods say a week before the con? Fortunately I have the time at work to do a read through of such things… \":)\" Prep time is much appreciated.

This. Given that table counts need to be final today, I doubt I’ll run this year. However, I might be willing to GM the BI next year provided we will be given the module before Origins (or, at a minimum, the combat stat blocks). I have no time at Origins to prep and I don’t feel anyone (me or the players) would have a good time if I had to run cold (I typically spend 3-4 hours prepping to run a normal mod).

    Hello Michael,

I am working on making sure you have the stat blocks early enough so you don’t have to do this. James will be coordinating who is running, so he’ll be sending out the stat blocks, etc.

Thanks Henry. I’m sure we all remember how big those old BI packets were….used to print those out at the university library. Man that was a lot of paper…. \":(\" \":o\" \"\" \":)\"

IME the material for A:RPG is not as onerous as the tail end of the old campaign. Fewer source books, fewer tiers for players to be at. That helps. Also true that utility, control and movement effects are all drasticly rolled back in this system…so players have “sword and sorcery” level options and not “Justice League” level options.

I agree it helps (a lot!) to get stats and maps before hand to prep. But at Arcaniscon I ended up running the poison jester thread which I spent the least amount of time looking at before hand (as opposed to Harvesters, cultist and myrantian threads) D’oh! How’d that work out?!?…still seemed to Be fun for everyone.

On vacation, and was just looking up event codes to register when I saw the call for judges. Sent an email to James to throw me in whenever.

I had to wait to see what my schedule was going to be as we are bringing a couple of rookies with us, writing email to james now.

It looks like it won’t matter. Registration is live and event limits are set on the Origins website. You’d have to use generics to get in from this point forth I believe (not sure the mechanics).

At least based on the slots I signed up for, it seems to be 1-3 tables per mod per slot and 10 tables (iirc) for the BI.

So if I am reading this right in the two slots I am judging of HP8 I am one of two judges (figuring that 12 player max cap = 2 tables of 6 players). Is that on the money? Must have been a real shallow judge pool this year. But then we lost at least half our local Arcanis players when it changed systems and several of those were judges. \":(\" Makes me kind of curious who my fellow judges will be.

I may be misremembering but I think most slots (other than BI) only had 2-3 tables at Origins 2014.
