Hello!
I would like to request some assistance in reviewing my Ss’ressen Martial Templar. He eventually will go Holy Champion and then Sentinel of the Blazing Wyrm but that claw-only Path has some lure as well.

Thanks in advance!

(If you have the Codex of Heroes, I suggest reading the “game of questions” section on pg. 42 and post anything that jumps out at you)
What aspect of the Fire Dragon do you want to focus on? Is your character a defender of your clutch (more of a tank build) or an offensive type who wants to focus on crushing the enemy of your god? (Obviously, you can have aspects of both, but what is the primary focus?)…Sentinels of Blazing Wyrm can go either direction…
Do you want to be a divine caster, or more of a holy warrior type with the blessings of the devout talents?
What do you see as your basic equipment? Do you want to be heavily armored, or focus on going “au naturel”? Do you want to use a flail (Fire Dragon’s preferred weapon) or a Bearded Axe (favored of the Sentinels of Blazing Wyrm) or something else (maul, a sword type, steel whip, t-hammer?)
Do you see yourself going sword/shield, 2 weapon fighting? 2 handed fighting?
What makes your character unique? I always suggest at least 1, but no more than 2 things that break the stereotype. For example, going full-on Holy Champion/Sentinel, but choosing to use a Maul. If you get more than a couple things “off-type” it becomes increasingly more difficult for both yourself and others to understand what you are really about. Alternative to mechanics, these “off-type” things could be quirky roleplay characteristics.

Personally, I’d probably drop your Might and Prowess by a point and up something else. You can always raise them with advances early on. Then again, I seem to be a fan of balanced attributes for the most part (a lot of my chars end up with lots of 5s). If you really want high Might, have you thought about taking the Huge talent?
January 1, 2014 at 2:57 am #254393AnonymousInactiveI do want to take the Huge talent but I’m not sure what to give up
January 1, 2014 at 9:25 am #254397AnonymousInactiveI think you need to run a build sheet, as you can’t have 3 ranks in Wilderness Lore at creation with those choices, so can’t take Prestidigitation (or Divine Spell Casting). (You currently get 1 rank for race and 1 rank at Step.7)
January 1, 2014 at 2:19 pm #254399AnonymousInactiveHe can have 3 Wilderness Lore with that setup. Prestidigitation and Divine Spell Casting are taken after he allocates his skill points. He gets Wilderness Lore for racial and chosen as one of his national.
What did you envision for this character? I would have chosen Scales of the Dragon over Breath of the Dragon. That 10′ range would only be beneficial in extremely few conditions. Being melee, you can just 5′ step up as part of the attack. Scales of the Dragon does stack with Benediction’s Armor boost, providing an AR of 8 when fully buffed. For clarification, Scales gives a +1 magic boost to natural armor and Benedictions grants a +1 magic boost to final armor rating.
Don’t expect too much from your casting. Martial advancements are weak for casting stats.
I have this funny feeling you are looking at Path of the Drake and Dragon’s Fury, based on being lured by the Adherent of the Claw path.

January 3, 2014 at 2:40 am #254470AnonymousInactiveSince I took Code of Conduct (and can never benefit from tactical edge) I swapped out Tail Swipe with Huge and consolidated more of my skills. In addition, I took down my Prowess by one and upped my Insight to boost Avoidance. Also, since a Martial Archetype gets the proficiency from the Nation and not just the Region, he is now carrying a Large Shield in one hand and a Bearded Axe in the other.
January 3, 2014 at 3:13 am #254474AnonymousInactiveSounds like Milarius would be a perfect Path for you.
January 3, 2014 at 3:28 am #254475AnonymousInactiveIf only there was a book describing Ssethric Paths that are conversions of Paths from the 3.5 Ssethregore book that was forthcoming to people who spend at least $15 at the Kickstarter!!!
Well, I guess we can dream . . .

January 3, 2014 at 4:57 am #254483AnonymousInactiveMilarius?
muhaha…i am just an evil prognosticator of things to come.

This is from the original Sseth book:
“The Miliarius Shock Troops are the Emperor’s private bodyguards. Heavily trained and armed to the fang, these hand picked ss’ressen devote mind, body, and soul to the protection of the Empire though the continued existence of its Emperors. Their signature weapon is the dreaded bearded axe. It is said that in an expert’s hands, the bearded axe is possibly the most fearsome melee weapon ever known, able to cleave through armor and shields as if they were paper. Each and every Miliarius is trained in the use of this heavy weapon, learning to toss and twirl the blade, to use its weight to best advantage, and even to reverse their grip on the haft to strike behind an enemy’s shield. The Miliarius are the most deadly foot solders in all of Ssethregore.”
They are a bit more bodyguard than the SoBW….but awesome. Yes, the Black Talons brought Milarius with them during the exodus from Ssethregore to protect the Matriarchs….
and, no, I will not spoil the proposed mechanics….
