So everyone can now take reborn except dwarves, and with special rules for Elorii. So currently a human can come back with a piece of ssressen soul. Human with kio. Kio with human. Gnome with celestial giant. This tells us a lot about meta story if this isn’t an oversight?
I can see how this works if kassegore’s maw is also the cauldron, but I wonder about kio having this, or humans having bits of kio souls if they don’t worship the pantheon.

Darn! I was hoping for a deep theological sign
March 15, 2018 at 2:57 pm #276203AnonymousInactiveA reborn Kio with a human soul can happen, remember the Kio in the core book is not a pure-blood Kio but low blood human/High-Born Kio hybrid, Undir as well. Heck, even Ibon as they are also half human. The interesting thing is how such an individual in that culture will be viewed.
The safest way to play it would be to keep the souls in the same “pool” keeping in mind Dwarves are out.
this is an unofficial quick/dirty split/guide.
Kio – Kio/Human/Val/Dark-Kin
Gnome – Human/Val/Dark-Kin
Human/Val/Dark-Kin/Undir – Human/Val/Dark-Kin/Undirwe will work to clear this up a bit more if it creates too much confusion
and keep in mind the “reborn” soul is not a complete picture.. its fragmented personality with fragmented memories, most of the memories and visions would feel like a dream and fade away just as quickly.

Humm, it would simplify it.. that’s a lord of lore call (Henry) but a safe bet

And some of my question has to to with where a soul goes, rather than where it comes from. Sure, a kio could have a human patchwork piece of soul if the (part human) kio soul came from the cauldron, but if kio worship something other than the pantheon of man, do their souls go there when they die? If not could a human have a piece of kio soul?
Also, what about non-human pieces? Giants have generally been shown to follow the PoM and thus should go to the cauldron, can a gnome have a fragment of giant soul? Kio a piece of true kio, etc.
And of course whether something similar can happen in kassegore’s gullet, allowing a ssressen to come back with a patchwork piece of a former Ssanu soul, say. And then if the gullet is the cauldron, if a human can have a piece of ssressen soul…. heck, if souls recycled fast enough could a human have a piece of ashen hide ssressen soul since theoretically they are now going to the cauldron as followers of Nier?
Let alone any other non human followers of the PoM that could recycle through that way….
March 16, 2018 at 10:43 pm #276211frootsnaxParticipantI think it’s pretty clear there are at least three “lanes” for souls. The elorii and (the) Ouremar. Humanity and the Cauldron. Ssethrics and Kas (unless the Varn get them…)
I am sure there are others. As I understand it old style Myrantians don’t go to the Cauldron. The Pengik were on the continent before the PoM so they shouldn’t either as I understand it. OOC One of my pet theories has always been that the universe naturally spins out souls and that things like the. Cauldron are larger fenced enclosures the grant power to the Pantheon that controls them.
Although people are free to design and play their character however they want, you should also be aware that the rest of the world won’t necessarily share your “crazy views.” Saying you have a soul fragment is already kinda out there. If you further claim as a darkkin that remember being a kio … I expect most people just blow you off as crazy. And maybe kio are offended.
it’s also not clear to me that’s you would necessarily know what race your soul fragment was from. For example you can jam on the ukulele without ever taking lessons, and you have a dim…perhaps irrational “apprehension” concerning white mice. (Brown mice are fine). What does that mean? Does that mean you have a gnomeish soul fragment? A Val? A kio? Or do you just a have weird corner of your psyche that doesn’t make sense given who the rest of you is?
For “humanity”, I also believe race is primarily a function of the body and does not directly equal a soul. As “human” you get your soul from the Cauldron…which is probably made up of lots and lots of different souls that were born darkkin or human or val. All of which is irrelevant to what race you are born. That same soul could be born to human or Val parents. Or could unfortunately be born into darkkin if a latent fiendish legacy reasserts itself. To my mind there are no “val” or “darkkin” souls. Just souls fro:the Cauldron. (For elorii it’s the opposite, it doesn’t matter what kind of elorii your parents were. You are born whatever your elemental soul is).
March 18, 2018 at 2:50 am #276218AnonymousInactiveOf course, some of us are just convinced the varying deities are nothing but avatars to placate the worship monkeys, and Kassegore and Yig just shrug and throw the soul into whatever tupperware container fits the dead person’s belief system.
“Now wait? Am I the Fire Dragon, Keleos, or Nier this time?”
**shrugs** “Don’t screw it up. If the wrong memories get in there, it’s gonna be a shit-show.”
