    ANOTHER IDEA:
This has been mentioned by others, but instead of an XP system, why not move to a ‘mods played’ system. You play 4 mods, you gain a Rank. *boom*. Simple. It doesn’t matter if the mod is a HP, SP, BI, Delve, or LARP. You play an adventure, you get 1/4 of the way to the next Rank?

    RATIONALE:
The reason I like this is it eliminates all the XP tracking and the need to assign XP to different actions in the mod. While non-goers can make a point about their loss of XP, there are arguments to be made that if your table has a string of back luck you could lose out on 50-100 XP in an adventure (towards a goal, etc.) and if this happens several times, you’re in the same position a someone who missed a BI.

This also opens up the possibilities for a lot more interesting story achievements. Instead of 50 XP for recovering the Big Blue Shiny Totem for the Merchant, he offers you a one time 10% discount on an select list of items he sells. Instead of 100 XP by rescuing Clumsy val’Clueless from the clutches of the Harvesters, maybe he offers you several bottles of his best vintage wine (can’t be ‘sold’ but can be traded for bonuses on Persuasion, Etiquette, etc.) at some point.

Sure, this doesn’t eliminate the entire con-goers vs. non-con goers but it really helps level things like ArcaniCon BI vs. Origins BI.

The staff had an impromptu meeting last evening on keeping consistency with XP given out for soft points / hard points / BIs from here on in. More to follow on this shortly.

I don’t think such a drastic change is a good idea, and the premise of the idea is also difficult to work into the way arcanis does things, it means there is no chance for failure, and i don’t agree with that.

I would rather see an over arching plan for XP and rewards given out and the expected characters lifetimes, but thats just my opinion

Success or Failure can be (better, IMHO) represented by story achievements than by XP. For instance, if you fail a mission, there’s a corresponding “negative achievement” instead of just a loss of 50 XP.

I am not going to sugar coat this. I hate XP per mod. Even the folks that use this regime ended up adding fractional mods. They were 3 XP per mod, until they made some promo events with 1 or 2 – and then eventually went to 1/2 XP awards as well.

The staff worked out a plan last night, so stay tuned.

Sounds good. I look forward to hearing what the staff has come up with. As an aside, I wouldn’t advocate anything other than ‘all mods give 1 credit towards advancement’. Otherwise, you’re back into the “XP” mode just at a less granular level.

Please Eric, tell us how you really feel with your honeyed words (lol).

I look forward to hearing about this, can you give the harvesters a day or two to ruminate on it before releasing it to the public so we can have our little discussion and then be onboard 100%?

I do not think that such a drastic change away form XP to Mods Played is a good idea either. And conversion will be a nightmare.

Moving over to mods played still doesn’t solve the issue of Exclusive event XP either, considering that will still be a mod played.

But at least it’s a consistent award for all mods. That way someone who’s played 4 soft points doesn’t feel they are getting less than someone who played 3 hard points and a BI.

I’ll hold off further discussion/suggestions until PCI brings forth their suggestions. I still think that while Con Exclusives can have less XP, I am opposed to them not offering unique, cool rewards.
