Have to wait till I’m home for more details, but a Tier I common ex. Spec should be encounter value 1.5, no?

Cody is correct According to pg 43 of the Bestiary, tier value is increased by .5 for the Exceptional Specimen variation

That is correct, it should be a 1.5…my oops.
But, it is minutia, as the ETV is only for building encounters and has no effect on players.

This is true, but consistency is still something to be sought out.

Okay, now that I’ve had time to actually sit with the book and dissect this:

    1) Technically the Sc’math, as a Common, should have only a d8 Attribute die (pg. 44 of the Bestiary), with their Might being bumped to d10 (Powerful Attribute, from Large Size) and their mental stats stuck at d4’s (Bestial Intellect). We can boost it to d10 using Exceptional Specimen, but that means we cannot have a 7th Quality or an extra +6 Stamina.

    2) The Sc’math has one too many qualities (presently has 7 when it should have 6). A Common gets 3, while Powerful Attribute is gained through being Large, for four. You can also receive an additional 2/Tier for taking flaws (Bestial Intellect, Ssethric Vulnerabilites). The listed Qualities are:

    1. Ravenous
    2. Notable Attack
    3. Toughness
    4. Beast of Burden
    5. Natural Armour
    6. Natural Armour
    7. Natural Armour

We can add another one for Exceptional Specimen, giving it a total of 7, but that means we can’t have the die bump to d10, or have +6 stamina.

    3) By my count the Sc’math should have 40 Stamina, not 36. There is 20 from Common, 5 from Tier (25), 5 from Exceptional Specimen (30), and 10 from Large (40). If we include the Toughness talent, they should have an additional 6 stamina, pushing them to 46, but that means no die bump to d10 or a 7th Quality.

    4) The Bite and Claws use different attribute dice (d12 for bite, d10 for claws) without a Quality to represent the die bump that I can see.

    5) The attack bonus’ are +3 when they should be +5 (+3 for Tier, +2 for Ex. Spec).

    6) Can Sc’math not wear Barding of any sort? If this is true, we should make a note of it. If they can, then shouldn’t Natural Armour x3 only give them a AR 4 (2+1+1)? If not, the AR 5 is accurate (additional +1 if they cannot wear armour).

As such, it should probably look like below. I removed Toughness (ta) as with the Stamina Math it’s still coming out ahead and this way it has the ‘legal’ amount of Qualities. This also allows for d10 base die:

    Sc’math
Common (Tier 1) [Ex. Specimen] d10 Large,
    Beast (Ssethric)

    Avoidance Fortitude Discipline
    19 20 16

    St (Wo) 40 (2) Pace 30′
    AR(n) 0(5) Initiative 3d10

    Attacks Bite: +5(a) D10(d12)+2
Speed (Recovery): 5 (0), Range: Melee

    Claw: +5(a) D6(d12)
Speed (Recovery): 3 (0), Range: Melee

    Talents

Traits Ravenous, Notable Attack (Bite), Powerful Attribute (Might), Natural Armor x3, Beast of Burden
    Flaws Bestial Intellect, Ssethric Vulnerabilities

    Skills (+5/21/16)
    Melee(Unarmed), Athletics, Mettle, Perception
    Encounter Tier Value: 1.5

Edits to reflect reevaluation of my post.

That is what I get for statting late into 3rd shift OT. \":P\"
Cody is partially correct, the stamina and bonus to attacks need adjusted. The qualities (and die type) are correct, though. It has 7. Base 3, 2 from flaws, 1 from size, 1 from exceptional quality. Please remember that the rules in the Bestiary are merely guidelines and suggestions. As such, we could give the thing a d12 and 7, 10, or 30 qualities if we wanted. I, personally, only apply the Natural AR2 rule for humanoids. Most critters I give 3 for the first use of Natural AR, unless I believe they should have less. My logic was that Horses have AR2 and Scmath have a bit tougher lizard-hide. oh…I also just wanted them to be Tough…so I guess I gave them 1 bonus Quality.

All fair. I based my comments on the Bestiary mostly for consistency reasons, but I’m otherwise fine with this.
