    I remember that, way back when in a previous epoch of these boards it appears, that Henry made a comment about some races having souls, and some having spirits. For example, a human has a soul, but an elemental or an infernal has a spirit. I don’t think that there was a listed description about what the actual metaphysical nature of the two was, but the deviation is interesting to me.

    Existing races/groups known to have souls:

    Humans (and their various subspecies)
    Elorii
    Dwarves (and Gnomes)
    Ssanu (and presumably the Naga subspecies)
    Ss’ressen
    Troglodytes (Salamankas?)

    Existing races/groups known to have spirits
    Elementals
    Infernals

    Unknown status
    Ibon
    Sama
    Giants (non-Celestial)
    Voiceless Ones
    Yissera
    Hylis
    Hussuma
    Singarthan Trolls
    Gar
    Il’Huan
    Dragons
    Natural Animals

    I thought at one point a comment was made that Elorii have spirits (not souls). Am I misremembering or was it changed after that?

    Last official word that I heard was that Henry was on the fence about it, but from everything I’ve seen in canon I am putting the Elorii as having souls until otherwise stated. Seems more sporting \";)\"

    I thought that changed between the last edition and this one. I thought in the 3.5 edition there were specifically some spells that targeted one’s soul, and those spells specifically called out that they did not effect elorii. Now they do. But I don’t have the old books, so I can’t cite examples.

    Yeah but from what I recall it was a GOOD idea that some of those races were eradicated. Not every race is all happiness and light…
