While working on some concepts, came across this oddity; Knight’s Code (ta) is very difficult to acquire for a PC from Almeric.

Squire (b) can only be taken by “Nationality: Milandir”.

Knights of the Milandisian Traditions (pa) uses “Nationality: Almeric (Morotavia Only), Milandir”
[ not including the specific Order requirement based upon the sponsor ].

This makes the only way to get into a knightly order to be:
    1. Noble Born (b) + Aspirant Knight (pa)
    2. Knight Errant (pa)
    3. Martial (a) + Seasoned Veteran (pa) + Aspirant Knight/Knight Apparent (pa)

It’s a pinch point for sure. On the other hand getting the Knight’s Code talent should require you to … get to a knighthood.

I admit that it seems a little weird that Squire (ba) doesn’t work with PCs from Almeric. I wonder if that might have been an oversight. Certainly large sections of Almeric still function under “Milandesian” social & military rules. Then again Almeric gets its own knightly Path in Codex of Heroes (Knight of the Order of Saint Bona the Traveler) so its not like they are totally forgotten either. That knightly order only requires you be from Almeric, have Born in the Saddle (ta), be proficient with Shields & have weapon mastery (ta) in a melee weapon.

I would also note that RPing/being a knight in Almeric does not require you to use the mechanics of various paths with the word knight in them. I had/have an idea for an Almeric character claiming the title of Prince even though his uncle has currently “stolen” his modest walled town. I’m not even sure he really needs to take the noble born background. He just would have been a prince in exile.

I wish we had had more Almeric mods at lower levels. The place is set up as a dark playground for adventurers. Now I think a lot of PCs have bigger things to worry about than if one walled town is messing with another…

I’m fairly certain this was errata-ed to include Almeric (Moratavia), but I don’t know if it made one of the actual final erratas.

I didn’t see it when collating the last version.

I am not sure that Almeric should have knights.

A knight swears feality to the crown and Almeric has no crown.

    Cheers

CheersI think a knight swears to a lord, and the lord potentially swears to the crown. There is no shortage of lords in Almeric. Really if you consider each Prince or Princess as a sovereign then there is no shortage of crowns either…

Given the knightly order of St. Bona I feel confident that there are lots of knights in many parts of Almeric.

There has been no directive to make Squire available to Almeric. No reason has been given but since Almeric is in a state of civil war the institution of Squiring may not be common any more to warrent the mechanic.
