I think I know the answer to this, but I thought I’d check: Would a Stance Talent (ie: Forward Stance) stack with a talent such as Smite Infidel? They both provide static die bonus’, but is a stance considered a talent or another ‘source’ of a bonus?
June 20, 2014 at 4:08 am #263174AnonymousInactiveBoth talents; both bonus die.
So no, they shouldn’t stack. Having said that, I don’t have access to the draft errata from this computer, which has quite a few of theses sort of conflicts providing a die bump instead.
June 20, 2014 at 1:17 pm #263184AnonymousInactiveOne is a once per scene bonus, and the other you are sacrificing a bonus to attack for a bonus to damage. If I were GMing I’d allow it, in my mind they are two different things, despite both being talent based.
June 20, 2014 at 2:03 pm #263190AnonymousInactiveboth are Talent sources that give die bumps, they do not stack
June 20, 2014 at 2:35 pm #263197AnonymousInactiveIt was my assumption (and how I’ve been playing it myself) that they did NOT stack because they were talents. However, because one was listed as a Stance, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.
June 20, 2014 at 2:45 pm #263198AnonymousInactiveThere is a very good sidebar on Pg5 of the FAQ that very clearly defines how stacking works.
All bonuses come from one of the following sources: Ally, Talent, Skill, Spell, Path, Item, Magic Item, Racial, Combat Maneuver and Untyped. There are three bonus types: Static (a fixed bonus such as a +1 or a +2), Die (such as adding a d6 or a d8) and Die Bump (increasing a die type to the next largest die.)”
both of the items in question fall into Talents (stances are not separated out) and both “add a die” so they don’t stack.

So Forward Stance plus Arcane Strike stacks because one is a talent and the other is a maneuver? That seems pretty powerful.
Forward Stance, Sweeping Arcane Strike, massive damage rules, I am seeing a high probability of wounding 2-3 people at once.
June 20, 2014 at 3:37 pm #263201AnonymousInactiveForward Stance cannot be used with any fighting style and by extension with Arcane Strike. Fighting Styles (Arcane Strike is part of the Arcimous Primus Fighting style) are all stances you enter.

June 20, 2014 at 5:39 pm #263211AnonymousInactive“[Limited] Martial techniques may only be learned through a Warrior advancement option, path, fighting style, or talents with the exception of Learn Martial Technique.”
Ok would whoever wrote the lead in to New Martial Techniques on page 109 of the COH that I quoted above please explain what they meant here?
I think what was meant was this:
“[Limited] Martial techniques may only be learned through the Martial Archetype advancement option ‘Gain the Learn Martial Technique Talent, twice’, a path that grants Learn Martial Technique (the specific maneuver), taking the Learn Fighting Style talent, or other talents that grant the specific maneuver, this does not include the talent Learn Martial Technique except as previously noted.”June 20, 2014 at 6:03 pm #263212AnonymousInactiveI don’t think it was the intent that the sentence override what “Limited” means.
June 20, 2014 at 6:20 pm #263214AnonymousInactivein the light that I helped edit the book I’ll try to help, I would guess Pedro or Eric wrote that section and they may or may not respond (or it might take them a while).
I think your trying to phrase it in a manner that would indicate you believe that you can take Limited martial techniques, by using the Martial advancement “Gain the Learn Martial Technique Talent, twice”.
It is interesting that they used “Warrior advancement option”, they might have meant martial, they might be referring to something not published ( it happens from time to time ), it might also refer to different advancement options not published. it could be a complete error and wasn’t meant to be there.
as it stands there are quite a few places in the books where some opportunities were not thought out to a logical conclusion, Words of Power is a great example of one that we caught, the text “Special (Access): This Talent is no longer Limited for you.” was added because it was originally only possible to get the first two tiers of this talent, someone else pointed out recently the order of the phoenix also has a similar issue with the companion talent being difficult to advance to t5, things happen, I would think it perfectly reasonable that they may have meant for that text to indicate you had taken a path advancement and the path granted you the maneuver.
Additionally, I would encourage you to examine the relative power level of making such a thing available. using arcane strike as an example, a Martial character could conceivably take this around 1.5 as a LMT 2x advancement (in your rules)
A similar character with out your interpretation of the rules would have a much more difficult time getting that talent (as the fighting style has more restrictive requirements than the talent), has to be in a fighting style to use said talent (all styles are considered stances) and is restricted to fighting style weapons / armor and other style restrictions.lastly I think if they intended to allow Learn Martial Technique 2x to be able to take [Limited] techniques, that would be a big change from what [Limited] means in other places, and they would have made more of an effort to spell that out clearly.
So no, I do not think your interpretation of that text is correct and [Limited] means [Limited] in pretty much the say way over the books.

I think it was defining what [Limited] means in relation to maneuvers, as these are the first limited maneuvers to be printed. Without a definition any Path that grants Learn Martial Technique should grant you the ability to take any [Limited] maneuver, as Archetype, Background, and Path talents ignore all requirements and [Limited]
To be clear, I am not trying to do anything but clarify the intent and the as written of the rules.

I am 99% sure that the intent of the wording was not for Learn Martial Technique to bypass “Limited” restriction. I would err on the said of caution before building a character around this. It was clarified several times that the ability to ‘ignore requirements’ did not ignore requirements/restrictions based upon Race, Tier, or Limited, but did ignore things such as Attribute minimums, pre-requisite Talents, and pre-requisite Skills.

June 20, 2014 at 6:37 pm #263224AnonymousInactiveI found the reference and it’s in the (upcoming) Errata document:
For the purposes of Archetypes (Which I assume will extend to Path/Background) “regardless of requirements with the exception of limited Talents, Talents above Tier I, and racial limitations”
