    Hello Folks,

I’ve been planning out my primary’s progression for Tier 2. Looking at my tiered talents (Leadership, Weapon Mastery, etc) I realized that I’m going to run into a problem at Tier 3, if I want to improve them all. A number of the talents only have T1, T3, T5.

At the moment I do have some room for talents at Tier 2. What I’m curious about is whether I would be able to take T3 of a talent at T2 and simply not benefit from it until I’m sufficient level. They don’t specifically state that you have to be Tier 3 to take them, and there is already an allowance for talents that are increased beyond your tier by paths.

    Thoughts?

If you take (or get) a talent that is tiered out of tier, it is useless until you reach that tier.

So in short, since it doesn’t list tier as a requirement I’d be okay taking it, I just wouldn’t benefit from it until tier 3. Right?

You can not take a higher tier of a talent then you are. It’s a requirement.

BUT if a path would give you the higher version you of a talent, you get the higher version, but can’t use it until you tier up.

This is correct. You cannot voluntarily choose a talent above a Tier that your character is. A Path (or Fighting Style) can give it to you though but it’s unusable until you reach the appropriate tier. Is it possible to take some of the other talents you’d have taken in Tier 3 in Tier 2 or are they Tier-limited as well?

Tiered: Tiered Talents possess one to five Tiers. When you first take the Talent, you learn its Tier I ability. Once per subsequent Tier you may take the same Talent again to learn the Talent’s next Tier ability provided your Hero Tier is at least as high.

    ARPG pg 170

and everybody else covered that you can get granted a talent from another source but cant take advantage of it untill you are of the correct tier

Just to double-check on one aspect of this. If a talent only has an ability at tier 1, 3, and 5, do you have to take tier 2 and 4 as well or do you jump 1->3->5? I’m assuming (and hoping) you don’t have to take useless tiers of talents…

well as I read the rule I quoted, you can take the talent 3 times total (not five)

you could take the tier 1 talent at tier 1 or 2, and the tier 3 talent at 3 or 4 and then 5 at 5, Or even Tier 1 at 3, tier 3 at 4 and 5 at 5.

However its possible that other people might read that differently.

If a talent only has 3 abilities, I see no reason why you’d have to take it 5 times. To me, that looks like VERY bad game design, and I know PCI aren’t bad game designers.

You don’t need to take a tiered talent for tiers where a benefit doesn’t exist.

It is my understanding that if fighting style grants you a talent or maneuver at an early tier, as long as you are the appropriate tier for the fighting style talent you can use whatever the fighting style talent grants you.

Only when you’re in the fighting style’s stance, but yes.
